Algorithm of Obtaining Maximum Diameter of Ball Mill Using in Semi-Finish Milling for Complex Mold
  Abstract

To select appropriate diameter of ball mill using to remove all step profiles for complex pocket with islands and free form surfaces in semi-finish milling, an algorithm of obtaining the diameter of maximum ball mill is proposed. Based on the character of semi-finish milling, the select criterion is built. After testing the approximate depth per cut for each step profile, the minimum value is used as the threshold to select maximum diameter of ball mill. Case study demonstrated its feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
