Nonlinear Numerical Analysis and Shear Resistance of Timber Column and Beam--Adobe Composite Wall with Finite Element Method
  Abstract

Three different kinds of abode wall and composite abode wall in thickness are calculated with elastic-plastic FEM. Lateral resistance capacities, crack shapes as well as ductility of abode wall,of composite wall are analyzed. Based on them, simplified formula is put forward for calculating the lateral resistance capacities of composites abode wall, which provides a basis for the design of composite abode wall. In addition, seismic effects of composites abode wall under different earthquake levels,i.e:frequent intensity, basic and rare intensity are estimated. It indicates that traditional abode wall with timber columns and beams can satisfy the criterion of rare earthquake for seismic zone 9. It also shows that the research can be used as the provision for the transformation and seismic reinforcement of traditional residential buildings in Xinjiang.
