Abstract: Tin resources are abundant and complicated in China. Most of tin resources come from cassiterite. Normally the main beneficiation method of coarse cassiterite ore is gravity separation. However, as for the fine-grained cassiterite, flotation and joint processing techniques are generally selected to improve the low recovery from gravity separation. This paper outlines different kinds of cassiterite, collectors and depressants for cassiterite flotation and their using conditions and some reinforced methods in beneficiation of the fine-grained cassiterite for reference in mining industry.

Abstract: Based on process mineralogical study of an oolitic hematite ore in SW China, the texture and structure of the ores, the occurrence of iron minerals and the dissemination of them are determined in detail, which provides scientific reference for forthcoming mineral processing technology. The mineralogical results show that the sizes of the grains are generally under 0.01mm, so the minerals cannot be liberated completely by traditional grinding technology. Moreover, the objective minerals are the assemblages of hematite and chlorite, whose amount is highly variable, so the magnetism also varies widely. Therefore, during the coming magnetic separation tests, the increment of the magnetic intensity should be strictly manipulated to determine the best condition for the ores.

Abstract: The tailings water of Luoba lead-zinc concentrator in Gansu China is characterized by high pH value and calcium oxide content, moreover, the concentration of lead ions, biochemical and chemical oxygen demand (BOD and COD) exceed the regulatory discharge standard. Studies on the combined use of ammonium bicarbonate (NH4HCO3) and LSQ (an innovative regent developed by Kunming University of Science and Technology) were conducted to treat the wastewater. Results show that the quality of treated tailings water by calcium removal-neutralization process can meet the regulatory discharge standard. Results show that the treated water can be reused for flotation, which helps to upgrade the quality of the concentrate and makes no difference with the fresh water used in the concentrator.

Abstract: With the exhausting of lead–zinc sulphide ores, the recovery of lead-zinc oxide ores becomes more and more significant. Extensive work has been carried out at home and abroad on the treatment of lead and zinc oxide ores in reagent scheme, flotation flowsheets, and joint process. Sliming is one of the main reasons why the lead-zinc oxides are difficult to recover. Eliminating the influence of slime and strengthening the study of joint process are the main development trends in future work.

Abstract: Based on process mineralogical study of a low-grade Cu-Ni-platinum group metal(PGM) sulfide ore in SW China, the occurrence of Cu and Ni, the distribution of platinum group minerals (PGMs) and their relationships with other minerals are determined in detail, which provides scientific reference for forthcoming mineral processing and extractive metallurgy. The mineralogical results show that 18 individual PGMs containing all the 6 platinum group elements (PGEs) are investigated, and it can be concluded that the PGMs in the ores mainly occur as individual minerals. SEM images show that the PGMs are mainly disseminated in sulphides, most occur as inclusions or semi-inclusions, and part are inlayed along the other minerals to form coarse compound grains. Due to the the complex mineral composition and texture, processing the Cu-Ni-PGM ores by traditional flotation may be difficult to get a good processing performance.

Abstract: Tailings from Aba zinc-lead concentrator cannot be discharged in tailings dam by traditional wet disposal method due to the location restriction and environmental consideration. Treatment and disposal of the tailings become a serious problem that should be solved. Through investigation of tailings disposal in similar concentrators of China, a joint process of dewatering by hydrocyclones and pressure filters has put forward, in which a dry material can be obtained and disposed in dry manner, and the water produced in the process can be reused. This process is expected to set a good example for concentrators where construction of tailings dam is impossible

Abstract: Cassiterite-polymetallic sulphide ore contains multi-elements that can be recovered in beneficiation. Case studies on processing two major tin deposits in Gejiu and Dachang regions are reviewed. Results show that the joint process of flotation and gravity separation has proven to be effective in treating the ores for its high efficiency and relatively small environmental impact. Flotation of tin minerals is considered as a supplementary technique for concentrating cassiterite from the slime produced in the joint process. The joint process is still a promising process in treating the cassiterite-polymetallic sulphide ore.
