Abstract: Simple genetic algorithm has shortcomings of poor local search ability and premature convergence. To overcome these disadvantages, simulated annealing algorithm which has good local search ability was combined with genetic algorithm to form simulated annealing genetic algorithm. The tests by two commonly used test functions of Shaffer’s F6 and Rosenbrock show that simulated annealing genetic algorithm outperforms the simple genetic algorithm both in convergence rate and convergence quality. Finally, the simulated annealing genetic algorithm was firstly applied in a practical problem of balancing and sequencing design of mixed-model assembly line, once again, the solution results show that simulated annealing genetic algorithm outperforms the simple genetic algorithm. Meanwhile, it provides a new algorithm for solving the design problem of mixed-model assembly line.

Abstract: Web-based Code Management System (WCMS) is an essential tool for realizing information exchange in distant collaborative product design and manufacturing among global-based enterprises. A framework for WCMS is built up on a three-tier client/server system and the WCMS is developed utilizing JAVA and J2EE technologies. The developed WCMS mainly uses servlets and JSP to handle user inputs and manage and retrieve code data from the database through the JDBC driver, with the server components stored on a middleware program called Tomcat. The WCMS developed in this work has been successfully implemented in an enterprise.

Abstract: According to the characteristics of aerospace product, the model representation and storage of the rigid part and cable harness is proposed. The Dendritic Correlative Model of Mixed Assembly of Rigid and Flexible Parts (DCMMA-RFP) is introduced based on the hierarchical model and graph model. The assembly model which realizes the lightweight storage can clearly represent the hierarchy relation and assembly process of aerospace products. The assembly modeling process in the virtual assembly environment is detailed described. Finally the effectiveness of DCMMA-RFP is verified by an example.

Abstract: Aiming at the shortcomings of traditional assembly process design and immersive virtual assembly system, the architecture of Desktop Virtual Assembly System (DVAS) for interactive assembly process planning is presented. The key technologies such as data conversion and reconstruction of assembly models, assembly intention recognition and assembly control navigation are studied. The lightweight storage of assembly models’ data and the intelligent constraints recognition are realized. The problem of assembly operations resulted from the lack of immersion is solved by movement navigation. The algorithms were proposed and applied to the DVAS prototype, and an application case is studied to demonstrate the effectiveness of the system.

Abstract: Because of the fierce competition among manufacturers and customers’ diverse needs, it
is essential for manufacturers to organize virtual organization to enhance their agilities to the market.
However, the job-shop scheduling becomes very complex and very difficult in a temporary virtual
organization. To achieve a harmonious collaborative engineering environment, a framework of
agent-based collaborative job-shop scheduling is proposed and resource conflicts are discussed, and
the theory of rough set and fuzzy appraise are applied to mediate these conflicts.

Abstract: Cable harnesses are essential assembly components that provide the electrical
interconnectivity between different modules within a electromechanical product. The design and
planning of cable harness assembly is a very complicated, time-consuming and key problem.
Currently the design and manufacture of cable harness assembly have remained a labor intensive
process. In this paper firstly the published academic in the design and planning of cable harness is
reviewed. Then on the basis of analysis, its development orientations are proposed including CAD
technologies, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and three-dimensional visual assembly.

Abstract: For a manufacturing enterprise to be competitive in constantly changing market
environment, it is necessary to adopt a new model called agile manufacturing by organizing Virtual
Enterprise. Aimed at developing a product development process management (PDPM) system for
Virtual Enterprise, modeling of product development process is discussed and a union information
model is proposed using Object Modeling Technique. Based on the J2EE platform, a framework of
PDPM system is built up with a three-tiered architecture, which consists of several Enterprise
JavaBeans components to ensure compatibility, distribution, and flexibility of the system. A PDPM
system prototype is developed utilizing JAVA and has been validated in a simulated virtual
enterprise environment.
