Abstract: The bonding strength of adhesive joints is influenced by the surface roughness of the joining parts. However, the magnitude of the influence has not yet been clarified because of the complexity of the phenomena. In this study, it is showed that surface treatment affects adhesive strength and durability of aluminum/polycarbonate single-lap joints, and loading speed affects tensile-shear strength of adhesive joints. To evaluate the effect of surface treatments on the adhesive strength, several surface treatment methods are used, that is, cleaning, grinding, SiC polishing and sand blasting. It is showed that an optimum value of the surface roughness exists with respect to the tensile-shear strength of adhesive joints. The adhesive strength shows linear relationship with the surface roughness and loading speed. And the mechanical removal of disturbing films of lubricants, impurities and oxides make adhesive strength increase significantly.

Abstract: In order to quantitatively analyze the critical strain for the initiation of dynamic recrystallization in Ni-Fe-based Alloy 718, a series of uniaxial compression tests was conducted in the temperature range 927°C - 1066°C and the strain rate range 5 x 10-4 s-1 - 5 s-1 with varying initial grain size. The critical strains were graphically determined based on one parameter approach and microscopically confirmed. The effect of γ'' (matrix-hardening phase) and δ (grain boundary phase)on the critical strain was simply discussed. The constitutive model for the critical strain of Alloy 718 was constructed using the experimental data obtained from the higher strain rate and the temperature range between 940°C and 1040°C.

Abstract: Cathodic protection is a system of preventing corrosion by forcing all surfaces of a hull to be cathode by providing external anodes. A metal can be made cathodic by electrically connecting it to a more anodic metal within the electrolyte. Anodes of these metals corrodepreferentially, the corrosion current of the anode achieving cathodic protection of the underwater hull to which they are connected. This paper presents a new current control algorithm for ICCP (Impressed Current Cathodic Protection) system. The anode of ICCP system is controlled by an external DC source with converter. The function of anode is to conduct the protective current into seawater. The DC source is generally obtained from main power system that contains a transformer, converter and etc. The proposed algorithm can operate AC-DC converter with current link. This algorithm includes the harmonic suppression control strategy and the optimum protection strategy and has tried to test the requirement current density for protection, the influence of voltage, the protection potential. Also, the properties of ICCP protected hull of ship in seawater are evaluated.
