Abstract: Chatter is one of the main factors that affects the manufacturing quality and limits the productivity during milling. If properly selecting mills with variable pitch distribution, the chatter may be reduced. If mills have sufficient rigidity, its vibration resistance will be improved extremely. The paper summarizes the effects of helix angles, pitch angles distribution on the maximum stress, the maximum strain based on FEM simulation, the result of simulation can offer theoretical instructions to optimize and select the optimal mills based on intensity and rigidity.

Abstract: In the paper, a static milling force model for variable pitch mills was built, and the milling forces were simulated. The resultant force and its frequency spectra of variable pitch mills were analyzed compared with that of uniform pitch mills. It is shown that the standard deviation (SD) of frequency spectra amplitudes for variable pitch mills is extremely lower than that of uniform pitch mills. Through simulation for SD of frequency spectra amplitudes affected by the different cutting parameters, a pitch angles distribution of variable pitch helix end mills with lower SD of frequency spectra amplitudes was selected.

Abstract: Traditional bottleneck diagnosis of production lines mainly relies on the designer’s experience, theoretical calculation or data analysis after practical system run. There are some disadvantages of the traditional bottleneck diagnosis for production lines. Using the virtual manufacturing technologies, a novel Simulation Diagnosis methodology about the Bottleneck of Production Lines (SDBPL) has been presented. With the proposed method, an existed production line is modeled, simulated and analyzed. Its bottleneck is quickly diagnosed by some ways such as visual simulation results, cycle time, machine utilization and labor utilization. Results reveal that SDBPL can find the location of bottleneck in the practical production lines without wasting practical resource because the entire course of the diagnosis for bottleneck is implemented in virtual environment, and SDBPL is quicker than that of traditional methods as well.

Abstract: This paper studies the NC grinding process for Isometric Polygonal Profiles (IPP) with self-made machine tools accessories, and establishes the time series model of the grinding process by means of measuring and analyzing the vibratory signal in the grinding process. The grinding experiment indicates that the surface formative motions of IPP can be achieved with the step-motor-driven accessories and it is reasonable to design the grinding machine for IPP according to the principle. This method solves the technical problems in IPP NC processing and can act as an important elicitation and illustration for NC processing other polygonal profiles.
