Abstract: The treatment of iron tailings has been a global issue, which has bought serious impact on the environment, it was considered to be a potential threat to human lives. In the present paper, the development situation of iron tailings utilization in China is investigated, the problems existed is analyzed and suggestions are provided, which are hoped to be valuable in the future research and the development of functional materials and products.

Abstract: Sepiolite mineral nanofibers are typical porous materials widely existing in nature and have many nanometer level micropore and mesopore, which could play an active role in many fields such as thermal insulation functional additive for composite materials. Based on the above reason, this paper briefly summarized the research progress of microstructure of sepiolite mineral nanofibers, and research orientations related to microstructure of sepiolite mineral nanofibers were also proposed.

Abstract: In order to use sepiolite nanofibers as rubber fillers, the hydrophilic character of sepiolite nanofibers should be modified by grafting organic group and controlling surface energy and proportion of dispersive interaction for improving compatibility of sepiolite nanofibers in rubber matrix. The surface energies of sepiolite nanofibers were measured by several liquids which were different on surface energy and polar interaction and calculated by Wus equation. The results showed that the mechanical properties can be improved after reinforcement by modified sepiolite nanofibers.

Abstract: Antibacterial composite materials were prepared by water as dispersing media, styrene acrylic emulsion as basic material, sepiolite nanofibers and germifuga as main functional additives. The antibacterial effect and mechanism were also systematically studied by means of antibacterial effect testing. The results show that the antibacterial effect was best when the proportion of germifuga and sepiolite nanofibers was 4% and 5%, respectively. The composite materials could restrict the bacteria growth effectively.

Abstract: Polypropylene nanocomposites were prepared by means of melt mixing using attapulgite as inorganic components. The relation between surface free energy and mechanical properties of polypropylene nanocomposites and elasticized mechanism analysis of modified attapulgite nanofibers were mainly studied. The results showed that the modulus, fracture strength, fracture extensibility, tensile strength, yield strength, bend strength, flexural modulus and dynamic ductility properties of nanocomposites all enhanced obviously after modified attapulgite nanofibers were filled up. Surface free energy of attapulgite nanofibers and impact toughness properties of nanocomposites were in approximate inversely-proportion quadratic function relationship, which could provide a new way of thinking in the field of nanocomposites research.

Abstract: The radiant thermal insulation coating is prepared by tourmaline and hollow glass bead as main functional additives. The thermal insulation property is evaluated by thermal insulation effect and far infrared emissivity. The results show that the optimum contents of functional additives are as follows: hollow glass bead 4%, tourmaline particle 8%. The integral mean of far infrared emissivity and thermal insulation effect of radiant thermal insulation coating are improved by 3.812% and 6.66°C, respectively. The mechanism of thermal insulation is that the structure of hollow glass bead generates scattering and multiple reflections of solar radiation, and then tourmaline particle and the oxides of hollow glass bead radiate the absorbed heat from coating to atmosphere.

Abstract: Rigid polyurethane foams were prepared using sepiolite nanofibers as main functional fillers. The effect of sepiolite nanofibers on the properties of polyurethane foams was studied systematically. Through characterization by scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and property test, it was found that the thermal insulation effect can be maintained, and the mechanical properties can be improved due to the good interfacial bond between sepiolite nanofibers and rigid polyurethane foams.

Abstract: During rubber processing, many factors can affect the mechanical properties of rubber composite. The influence of ambient temperature and content of titanate coupling agent and modified attapulgite (OAT) on mechanical properties were investigated by preparing rubber composites and measuring. The results showed that the rubber composite which was filled 40phr OAT modified by 3% titanate and prepared at the ambient temperature above 20 had best tensile strength (18.93MPa). There is a special phenomenon that the tensile strength had a rapid increase from 4.72MPa to 18.93MPa, when the content of OAT changed from 20 to 40phr in the experiment.

Abstract: In this work, purified and surface-pretreated attapulgite was added to the common recipe of the skin-care cream and the improved cream products, containing clay minerals, were prepared. In order to optimize the moisturizing and sunscreen properties of the cream products, different attapulgite addition was tried and the grinding time of the attapulite was considered. The result shows that, by adding attapulgite clay, the moisturizing and sunscreen properties of the skin-care products can be improved respectively.

Abstract: Zeta potential of purified sepiolite in aqueous system was studied as a function of pH and solid content. From the experimental results, it was found that sepiolite surface acquired a negative charge in water at natural pH, and the value of zeta potential decreased with the increase of pH value. Solid content had effect on zeta potential, but it can be minimized by the increase of time.
