Abstract: By associating texture determinations and strains measurements by neutron diffraction, the elastoplastic behaviours of families of crystallites with the same crystallographic orientations were characterized in situ in a brass and a bronze alloys under uniaxial loading. The polycrystalline orientation analysis method proposed here allows an intermediate approach between a “local” (intragranular) and a “global” characterization, within the bulk of massive samples.

Abstract: The crystallographic slip activity in several grains deformed by simple tension is determined by use of in-situ deformation in combination with Electron Back Scattering Diffraction (EBSD)-investigations and Secondary Electron (SE) imaging. This technique is also used to determine grain lattice rotation paths of grains with different initial orientation, providing information on basic deformation mechanisms of grains present in texture gradients. Both slip activity and grain lattice rotation paths depend on the initial orientation and are influenced by the neighbouring grain orientations. This indicates that predictions of the forming behaviour of extruded profiles with a strong through thickness texture gradient relate to a very complex nature.

Abstract: In this work, EBSD (Electron Back Scattered Diffraction) measurements have been performed on deformed, partially and fully recrystallized cold rolled copper to 70 and 90 % reduction. The twin fraction as well as its existing relation with the parent crystallographic orientation has been followed in relation with respect to the recrystallized fraction. It has been shown thanks to this quantitative analysis that annealing twinning is more active when recrystallization nuclei slowly develop. The experimental observations are briefly discussed according with the twins selection principles [1].
