Abstract: A new unsymmetrical diarylethene derivative 1-(2,4-dimethyl-isoxazol-3-yl)-2-(2-methyl-5-formyl-3-thienyl) perfluoroyclopentene (1a) was synthesized. Its photochromic and fluorescent properties were investigated, respectively. The results showed that this diarylethene exhibited reversible photochromism, the ring-closed isomer absorption maxima were observed at 519 nm and 527 nm in hexane and PMMA film, respectively. In hexane solution, diarylethene 1 showed good fluorecence switching characters with 309 nm light excited.

Abstract: A photochromic diarylethene bearing a six-membered aryl unit 1-[(2,5-dimethyl-3-thienyl)]-2-[2-methy-4-(3,5-difluorophenyl)-phenyl]perfluoroyclopentene (1a) was synthesized and its photochromic and fluorescent properties were also investigated in detail. The results showed that this compound exhibited reversible photochromism, changing from colorless to red after irradiation with UV light, in which absorption maxima were observed at 521 and 536nm in hexane and PMMA film, respectively. The fluorescence intensity decreased along with the photochromism upon irradiation with 297 nm light in hexane.

Abstract: A new photochromic diarylethene compound, 1-[2-methyl-5-(3-chlorophenyl) -3-thienyl]-2-[2-methyl-5-(2-pyridine)-3-thienyl]perfluorocyclopentene(1a) was synthesized. its photochromism was investigated. It exhibited good photochromism and functioned as an effective fluorescent photoswitch both in solution and in PMMA films.

Abstract: A new photochromic compound 1-(2,5-dimethyl-3-thienyl)-2-(2-methyl-5-(1-formyl-2- methoxyl-5-phenyl)-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene (1a) was synthesized, its photochromic properties were examined, the result indicated that the color of the compound 1a changed from colorless to a purple one upon irradiation with 297 nm UV light, a new absorption maxima were observed at 542 and 557 nm in hexane and PMMA film, respectively. The new photochromic compound also exhibited remarkable optical recording character.

Abstract: A new unsymmetrical photochromic diarylethene, 1-(2-methyl -3-benzothienyl)-2-(2-nbutyl-5-methylol-3-thienyl)perfluoroncyclopentene (1a), was synthesized and its optoelectronic properties, such as photochromism in solution as well as in poly-methylmethacrylate (PMMA) amorphous films and fluorescences were investigated. Using diarylethene 1b/PMMA film as recording medium and a linearly polarized 633 nm laser diode for recording and readout, polarization multiplexed image recording can be carried out in this film, which illustrated that the diarylethene can be potentially used as holographic optical recording medium.

Abstract: A novel photochromic diarylethene based on pyrazole moiety was synthesized and its photochromic and fluorescent properties were also investigated. The compound exhibited remarkable photochromism, changing from colorless to purple after irradiation with UV light both in solution and in PMMA film. In hexane solution and in PMMA film, the open-ring isomer of the diarylethene 1 exhibited relatively remarkable fluorescence. The results indicated that the pyrazole moiety played a very important role during the process of photochromic reaction for the diarylethene derivative. Using this dithienylethene 1c as optical storage was performed successfully.

Its properties, including photochromic reactivity both in solution and in PMMA film, photoconversion ratio at photostationary state, fluorescence and optical recording property were investigated. The diarylethene underwent reversible photochromism, changing from colorless to purple after irradiation with UV light or visible light both in hexane and PMMA film. In hexane, the diarylethene exhibited relatively strong fluorescence switching. Using the diarylethene 1c as optical storage was performed successfully.

The new photochromic compound also exhibited remarkable holographic optical recording character.
