Abstract: Polypropylene (PP)/ polyethylene terephthalate (PET) composite fibres modified by PP-g-AA as a compatilizer were prepared by melt extrusion in a twin screw extruder. The crystallization and melting behavior of PP fibre and PP/PET composite fibres were investigated with differential scanning calorimeter (DSC)[1]. The results indicate that addition of PET acts as nucleating agent on the PP/PET composite fibres and increases the crystallization temperature of PP. [2,3]The crystallization peak temperature (Tp) increased first and decreased afterwards with the increase of PET, indicating that small amount of PET would promote the crystallization of PP, but excessive would reduce the crystallinity.

Abstract: In this paper, the ultra-high molecular weight Polyethylene/ Epoxy resin (UHMWPE/Epoxy) fibres were prepared by using gel spinning. The effect of adding Epoxy on the performance of gel-spun UHMWPE/Epoxy composite fibres was investigated by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). It was found that Epoxy serving as nucleation agent for UHMWPE/Epoxy composites could improve the ordered degree when compared to that of pure UHMWPE fibres. And the value of half-time crystallization of UHMWPE/Epoxy composite fibres was higher than pure UHMWPE fibres’ at lower cooling rate, but lower at higher cooling rate. Besides, the crystallization rate of UHMWPE/5%Epoxy composite fibres was higher than that of UHMWPE/10% Epoxy, that is to say when the content of Epoxy≤5%, the composite fibres usually exhibits excellent crystallization.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to put forward a new method to improve the ballistic impact performance of unidirectional plate (UD plate) by adding shell powder into matrix. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) spectra revealed that modified shell powder was dispersed uniformly in the matrix. The results of ballistic tests and temperature adaptation tests demonstrated that the bulletproof property of modified UD plate was improved about 20%. The heat-resistant temperature was increased approximately 5°C.
