Abstract: New thermoplastic soy protein isolated (SPI) and methyl acrylate (MA) copolymers (T-SPI-g-MA) were prepared using graft copolymerization and initiated with ammonium persulfate (APS). The reaction conditions such as initiator concentration and temperature on the graft percentage (GP) were investigated. The single factor experimental showed that the optimal conditions for grafting of 15g SPI were: 4 g initiator of APS, 60 mL monomer of MA and in 250 mL 2M urea aqueous solution at 70 °C for 3 hours. The products were characterized by means of FT-IR and DSC. The results indicated that the monomer was grafted successfully on SPI and the T-SPI-g-MA had a glass transition at 22 °C.

Abstract: The spherical lignin/polylactide (PLA) adsorbent was prepared by solvent evaporation. The dispersed phase contents, the PLA concentration and ratio of PLA to lignin on the diameter and mechanical strength of the PLA/lignin composite adsorbent spheres were investigated and the morphology structure and mechanical strength of the adsorbent were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA). The results showed that the adsorbent has porous structure, and the mechanical strength increased significantly as the ratio of PLA to lignin as 4:1.

Abstract: A fixed bed of raw rice husk was used for the removal of Zn (II) from aqueous solution. The material as adopted was found to be an efficient media for the removal of Zn (II) in continuous mode using fixed bed column. Different column design parameters like depth of exchange zone, flow rate and initial concentration were calculated. When conducted with Zn (II) concentration 10 mg.L-1 and flow rate 10 ml.min-1 with different bed depths such as 3, 6 and 9 cm, the equilibrium uptake was 3.366, 2.847 and 2.764 mg.g-1, respectively. The equilibrium uptake decreased from 2.802 to 1.975 mg.g-1 with increasing of flow rate from 5 to 15 mL.min-1 and increased from 2.764 to 3.798 mg.g-1 when initial concentration increased from 10 to 30 mg.L-1. The dynamics of adsorption process was modeled by bed depth service time (BDST), and indicating the validity of BDST model when applied to the continuous column studies.
