Abstract: Large-scale controlled planting of water hyacinth has become one of the most important measures of Dianchi Lake’s treatment in the “12th Five-Year Plan”. This paper firstly introduced the present situation of large-scale controlled planting of water hyacinth in Dianchi Lake. The water quality of Caohai and Waihai of Dianchi Lake were compared before and after the project of planting water hyacinth. This paper concluded that the effects of large-scale controlled planting of water hyacinth on the ecological restoration of Caohai lake were outstanding. The area of controlled planting could be spread among other water areas of Dianchi lake where is suitable for the growth of water hyacinth in the future, and water hyacinth will pay a greater role in the ecological treatment of Dianchi Lake.

Abstract: As one of a agricultural provinces of China, Yunnan has abundant biomass resources such as crops straw, wood wastes and so on. However, the exact annual output of biomass resources has not been statistically calculated. Through carefully collecting and recalculating data from 2000 to 2008 year, the accurate main crops straw yield of Yunnan were calculated by using the Straw to Product Ratio (RPR) coefficient of different crops in this paper. Yunnan produced some 23 million tons of crops straw per year. The three largest contributions to the total output of crops straw were from corn, sugarcane and rice, which amounted to 39%, 28% and 16% of the total crops straw respectively. This paper analyzed the present status of utilization of biomass in Yunnan and proposed that more than 60% of crops straw were burnt in the field at present, which has caused serious environmental pollution. There was still 19 million tons of biomass from agriculture, forestry and flower industry each year can be used as biomass energy resources, which was equivalent to about 9.5 million tons of standard coal, and can provide about 2.76 × 1014KJ biomass energy.

Abstract: Water hyacinth (WH) has been one the most troublesome caused by invasive species in the warm regions over the world. However, it has the potential to be compressed into biomass pellets as a local source of substitute and renewable solid fuel in the future. The method and preparation of comperssing WH pellets were investigated in this study using a compressing apparatus in the lab. WH samples were ground by a hammer mill with three different screen sizes (2.0, 3.0and 4.0mm), compressed with five levels of compressing forces (1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000N) at three levels of moisture content (10%, 15% and 20% wb). The density of each sample pellets was calculated and recorded. The effects of compressing pressure, screen size and moisture content on pellets density were analyzed depending on the statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA). It was found in this study that all the three factors except screen size affected WH pellets density significantly, high quality of WH pellets in terms of high pellets density can be obtained under a compressing pressure about 80MPa and at a moisture contnet about 15% (wb).
