Abstract: Electric mining haul trucks are one of the most challenging applications of power electronics in automotive systems. This paper presents some advances of AC drive system with multiphase induction motor in high power mining haul trucks used in the special operation and environment. It is established that the use of inverter-fed dual three-phase (DTP) induction motors with vector control is the preferred solution to reach the required high starting torque, widely variable-speed range and good dynamic performance required by these vehicles. Key technologies and design features for the drive systems under extreme operating conditions are discussed.

Abstract: Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is a multi-variables, non-linear and strong coupling system. A model reference adaptive controller (MRAC) for PMSM based on back propagation (BP) neural network (NN) is proposed to solve the shortcoming of traditional proportion integration (PI) control method, which is widely used in linear system. According to the proposed method, the simulation model is established and simulated with Simulink. The adaptive control of motor speed is achieved with the training of BP neural network. Simulation results show that the system has long response time, small overshoot and high static performance.

Abstract: The paper deals with modeling, simulation and analysis of speed observer for induction drive. Mathematical model of observer is presented and its computer model is elaborated. Speed measurement results are compared with those obtained during simulations with induction motor model. Development and implementation of speed observer requires measurement of motor current and supply voltage. Simulated values of current and voltage are used in the proposed observer model instead of the real ones. Model of induction motor is developed on the basis of motor equations in stationary reference frame. Model of observer relies on nonlinear differential equations, describing performance of induction motor, additionally making use of the space-vector theory. The speed observer developed by means of direct synthesis from state equations is robust with respect to parameter and load variations.
