Abstract: A semi-empirical fatigue life prediction model under development by the present authors for riveted lap joints used in aircraft structures is outlined. In contrast to existing models, it will account for the influence of the rivet squeeze force on the fatigue life of riveted joints. To determine the effect of rivet-hole interference on the fatigue behaviour of a riveted joint, a series of fatigue tests on filled hole coupons with different amounts of interference will be carried out under loading conditions representing the bypass load, transfer load and secondary bending. These experiments will allow evaluating of the dependency of the fatigue notch factors on rivet hole expansion. Preliminary results obtained so far are presented in this paper.

Abstract: A stress analysis software based on MATLAB graphical user interface (GUI) has been developed. The developed software can be used to estimate internal loads on a fuselage and to compute the stresses at any point along the length of the fuselage of a given aircraft. The generalized formulation allows user to perform stress analysis even on tapered fuselages. The software is expected to be a useful tool for effective teaching learning process of courses on aircraft structures and aircraft structural design.

Abstract: This paper primarily describes the development and application of substructure computational analysis techniques to determine stress intensity factors for the damaged panels subjected to fatigue internal pressure. A program based on substructure analysis technique has been developed for the fracture analysis of curved aircraft panels containing cracks. This program may create whole model which consists of substructure superelements and obtain fracture parameter of the crack by expanding results in superelement automatically. For instance, a typical test curved panel model consists of 7 frames and 8 stringers is calculated. This numerical approach has been validated through comparison between the calculation SIF results and available experimental data of a typical test panel with a longitudinal crack. The technique that has been established here is also applied to the other analysis of a test series of cracked panel with 7 frames and 10 stringers. SIFs of four cracks in it with different crack lengths are obtained efficiently.
