Abstract: The paper deals with problems of independent movement and orientation of blind persons in public space. It adverts to the importance of understanding the public space in context with needs of the blind for orientation elements, points, lines and signs. The paper follows these sets of elements in public space more closely. The objective of this paper is to get a comprehensive insight into the problems and the definition of elementary orientation elements for provision of independent movement of blind persons in public space that are reflected subsequently in technical regulations.

Abstract: Navigation aid is important for the visually impaired person to travel safely. A white cane is normally used to detect obstacles in the persons path but it is limited in its detecting ability as it can only detect obstacles around the length of the cane and is unable to detect moving or overhanging objects. Many types of navigational aids are being developed using ultrasonic sensors to assist the visually impaired to detect obstacles and they are known as Electronic Travel Aids. This paper is focused on studying the influence of acoustical absorbing material on the obstacle detection angle of an ultrasonic sensor. Results showed that a tube lined with acoustical absorbing material attached to the sensor is able to narrow the detection angle for more precise obstacle detection.

Abstract: Two new blind estimation schemes based on decorrelation LMS(DLMS)and time-domain orthogonal LMS(TDO-LMS) algorithms are proposed to solve the problem of convergence in the estimation scheme based on LMS algorithm in wireless mobile communication OFDM systems. These schemes are improved on the traditional LMS algorithm. The factor of TDO-LMS algorithm changes along with the power of signal ,and the decorrelation LMS removes the correlation of the signal. Two methods can get faster convergence and better estimation performance combining with alterable step in the channel estimation of OFDM systems.Simulation shows that the convergence of the schemes proposed is better than that in the channel estimation based on the traditional LMS algorithm obviously.

Abstract: A road edges detection method of a novel electronic travel aid for the blind was proposed. Road edges extraction was realized by Canny filter and Hough line transfer. Multiple lines detected by Hough transfer were processed into one edge line. Road deviation judgment method was proposed to determine if the user has deviated from the road by judging the position and angle of the edge lines. Experiments showed that the correct extraction rate of road edges was 93%, and the road deviation judgment method was effective and fast. Experiments were done using the consecutive stereo image sequences captured on road.

Abstract: Based on GPS positioning technology, taking ARM920T core S3C2440A processor as the control core, complete the design of blind navigation. The navigator can be more accurate to tell the current time, direction, location names and other detailed information for the blind and their families by means of voice broadcast and liquid crystal display, the system easy to operate, simple and greatly enhanced the bind’s ability to walk around, better usability, may become widely used by the blind.

Abstract: The recent progress in the digital multimedia technologies has offered many facilities in the transmission, reproduction and manipulation of data. However, this advance has also brought the problem such as copyright protection for content providers. Digital watermarking is one of the proposed solutions for copyright protection of multimedia. This paper proposes a blind watermarking algorithm based on fractal model in discrete wavelet domain for copyright protection. The idea of the presented scheme is to hide a binary image as a watermark with fractal parameters in wavelet domain of host image. Fractal compression technique is used to encode a gray image and fractal codes are embedded into the wavelet coefficients of the gray image according to well-connected watermark algorithm. The experimental results show that the algorithm is robust against geometric and non geometric attacks.

Abstract: Analysis into the effects of parametric characteristics of visual aid on the perception level of information transmitted has led to the possibility of examining and determining the quality of the reading level as a function of certain parameters of a digital apparatus (sensor), the distance to the text, the size of letters and the intensity of light. Efforts have been made to evaluate the effect of the specifications of the executor as well as the information transfer (by tactile way) speed onto the sensory organs of the disabled person at the perception level. A choice has been made of rational information transfer speeds and appropriate visual aid characteristics to facilitate an adequate perception level.
