Abstract: Diabetes mellitus prevalence has rapidly increased globally. Food contains high resistant starch (RS) may be used as a functional food to prevent and control diabetes mellitus. Resistant starch is high in raw bananas and its products such as flour. The study aimed to evaluate effects of Kepok banana flour on blood glucose and physical performance, especially body weight and feed intake in type 2 diabetic rats induced by nicotinamide (NA) and streptozotocin (STZ). Eight-week-old male Wistar rats weighed 150-200 g were randomly divided into nondiabetic and diabetic groups. Nondiabetic group (n=7 rats) was normal control (NC) and fed with standard diet AIN-93M (American Institute of Nutrition Rodent Diets 1993 for adult maintenance), while diabetic groups (n=7 rats each group) consisted of diabetic control (DC) which fed with standard diet and 3 diabetic treatment groups (T1-T3) which fed with AIN-93M containing kepok banana flour with 4%, 8% and 12% of RS respectively for 14 days. After 14 days, mean fasting blood glucose in group T1, T2 and T3 have lower blood glucose than DC significantly (p<0.05) with the highest decrease of blood glucose was on group T3. Mean of body weight in group T1, T2, T3, and NC gained significantly compared to DC group (p<0.05). Feed intake in group T1, T2, T3, and NC were less than DC significantly (p<0.05). Administration of kepok banana flour with 4%, 8% and 12% of RS is able to decrease glucose level, to restore body weight loss and to reduce feed intake in STZ-NA induced type 2 diabetic rats. Kepok banana flour can be proposed as an alternative diet in the management of type 2 diabetes.

Abstract: In the present study, we examined resveratrol(RES)extracted from Polygonum cuspidatum on antioxidative effects in the senescence-accelerated mouse (SAM). We fed resveratrol to young adult SAM mice at doses of 25,50,100mg/(kg•bw) in their standard powder diet for 8-week. The body weight, organ weights and oxidation products of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the liver of the SAM were determined. The results showed that the SAM mice were no dose-related change in either body weight or organ weights, the amount of MDA declined distinctly in the mouse liver. In conclusion, resveratrol may have an antioxidant effect.

Abstract: When an enterprise produces school uniforms, it often takes the clothing specification and size based on the students’ height and weight as the basic information. This kind of method relys on the experience, it is difficult to meet the developing requirement of clothing digitization. This paper analyzes characteristics of the male university students’ bodies in Liaoning area, based on the survey of 270 university students’ bodies, in which 15 body measures were taken. The body characteristics and the data distribution of these people were obtained according to the national clothing size standard. Through the regression analysis of the body height to 4 lengths, such as the cervical vertebral height, the sleeve length and so on, and the chest girth to 8 girths, the key measures are obtained and the regression equation is established. The multivariate analysis based on the height and the weight proves that the waist girth is mostly influenced. Through the regression equation of the waist girth to the height and the body weight, the influence of body weight change on the waist girth with a certain height can be obtained, and the chest girth and the hip girth as well. It’s helpful to determine the size specification of the school uniform. This research also provides a reference to digitizing of the clothing design and manufacture.

Abstract: Although inception of the measurement of astronaut body mass measurement was as old as Skylab era, progress in the field has not been as expected. There are fundamental physical difficulties as well as program management issues. New mass measurement systems with the current sensor technologies should be prepared, and the new sensor system could be expanded for “Drop Tower” in space.
