Abstract: There is now limited worldwide research and discussion on carbon neutrality in commercial buildings to meet practical needs. A review of the research literature and existing examples of carbon-neutral design for commercial buildings using the original five design pathways from the US and Dutch case studies found that current approaches to reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency by maximising natural sunlight and reducing electricity use have exceeded the energy demand rate of buildings, however, the lack of measures for carbon-negative technologies has hindered the development of carbon-neutral buildings. This study builds on the original pathway by proposing a design pathway of 'target (carbon neutral) + environment (coastal) + design project (commercial building)', divided into two areas: carbon reduction and carbon sequestration for coastal buildings. The design pathway for carbon sequestration includes measures such as CTU for freight, wetland restoration and ocean energy use.

Abstract: One of the prior directions in the high-rise buildings formation was the use of spatial voids in their architectural solution. This article discusses the world experience in the design and construction of high-rise buildings, the formation of which is based on techniques connected with the use of spatial voids. On the design experience analysis basis is revealed through the classification of unique high-rise buildings architecture formation existing methods on the basis of application of spatial voids in their figurative decisions. The five main shape-forming schemes of high-rise buildings based on the use of spatial voids in their structure: gallery, bridge, arch, closed, combined (hybrid) are defined. The basic principles of high-rise buildings architecture formation with application of spatial apertures in their volume solutions are determined. The work's practical significance in the possible application of the obtained study results, both in project practice and for the further theoretical research is specified.

Abstract: The amount of construction waste (CW) at building sites is highly variable, for instance the CW generation index ranges between 50-300 dm3 per square meters of gross floor area. Today there is still a lack of knowledge about variables (building design, construction process, construction technologies, etc.) affecting the CW generation. The objective of this paper is to analyse the influence of multi-storey building design and some construction processes on the CW generation indexes. The CW generation was analysed for two groups of buildings with two different construction processes; one with plumbing and electric services installed inside the masonry element and the other with plumbing and electric services installed onto the masonry element and covered with water-resistant drywall system (reducing the construction waste generation). The gross floor area directly affects the amount of executed construction works in a building site. Since the most important works (concrete, masonry and cladding) for CW generation is related to gross floor area, gross floor of buildings is also directly related to CW generation. For buildings with gross area varying from 20,000 to 80,000 m2, there is a reduction of approximately 18% of construction waste only changing the plumbing and electric services installation system, from embedded in the masonry element to installed onto the masonry element and covered with water-resistant drywall system.

Abstract: Constructing low carbon building is inevitable at low carbon economy era. Design is a dominating influence in building life cycle. To design low carbon buildings, this article studies some reasonable design techniques. The article analyses relevant professions of design and puts forward the main techniques and methods during building design stage for reducing carbon emission. These techniques are critical to building life cycle.

Abstract: This paper introduces the architectural art design based on ecological aesthetics. The philosophical foundation, thinking ways and research methods of ecological aesthetics are described detailedly. The architectural art design which absorbs the advantages of ecological aesthetics shows the beauty of architecture. This is beneficial attempt from three aspects, namely whole vision, cultural ecology and aesthetic participation. All these research promote the development of architectural art design.

Abstract: In emergencies such as fire, pedestrian evacuation for bad visibility is significantly different to the evacuation for normal visibility. In the novel evacuation model, the strategies of pedestrian evacuation and the moving rules are proposed. Then the formulas of the evacuation time are achieved and the time ratio is 0.63. More, using the programming language, pedestrian evacuation is simulated and reproduced. The studies shows that the proposed evacuation model can well reflect the process of pedestrian evacuation; and the evacuation signs of reasonable design can significantly optimize the process. The calculation results also show that the ratio of evacuation time between considering evacuation signs and no evacuation signs is close to 0.63 that is the theoretical results.

Abstract: Based on the research of domestic and foreign sports park design, This paper introduced the planning of a sports and leisure park in Huangcun Town, Daxing District, Beijing . The design scheme revolved on four aspects: the planning concept, the overall layout, the design of single building, the landscape design. All the aspects are strived to achieve harmony for natural and humane, ecological and landscape, tradition and modern.
