Abstract: A multiscale model on dislocation patterning of cell structure and subgrain for polycrystal is newly developed on the basis of reaction-diffusion theory. A FD simulation for dislocation patterning and a FE one for crystal deformation are simultaneously carried out for a FCC polycrystal at large strain. Reflecting stress value on stress-effect coefficients, it is numerically predicted that the evolution of dislocation pattern in a polycrystal is different in response to the stress condition of each grain.

Abstract: Numerous methods have recently emerged for fabricating cellular lattice structures with unit cells that can be repeated to create 3D space filling systems with very high interconnected pore fractions. These lattice structures possess exceptional mechanical strength resulting in highly efficient load supporting systems when configured as the cores of sandwich panels. These same structures also provide interesting possibilities for cross flow heat exchange. In this scenario, heat is transported from a locally heated facesheet through the lattice structure by conduction and is dissipated by a cross flow that propagates through the low flow resistant pore passages. The combination of efficient thermal conduction along the lattice trusses and low flow resistance through the pore channels results in highly efficient cross flow heat exchange. Recent research is investigating the use of hollow truss structures that enable their simultaneous use as heat pipes which significantly increases the efficiency of heat transport through the lattice and their mechanical strength. The relationships between heat transfer, frictional flow losses and topology of the lattice structure are discussed and opportunities for future developments identified.

Abstract: The cell-structure of highly porous aluminum material prepared by melt foaming technology was investigated under deformation with fine-focus X-ray 3D-CT to make clear the development target porous material for automobile industries with improved reliability. It was confirmed that structures with more fine, more uniform and exclusion peculiar anisotropic pores would make improved mechanical properties of the material.

Abstract: This study is aimed at investigating the deformation characteristics and mechanisms of wood and its deformation characteristics using long distance microscope and CCD-camera. The structures of actual wood can be treated as micro cell structure and layer one. Several deformation characteristics were obtained in compression process. Characteristics of the deformation were investigated experimentally. The following results were obtained for the deformation of wood. (1) The deformation modes of cell structures and the locations where deformation is generated were clarified. (2) The characteristics of the compression of layered structures were clarified. (3) The deformation of wood was largely affected by structural features such as the grain, distribution of tree rings, and compression direction. The results obtained are useful in carrying out effective compaction of wood.

Abstract: A self-organization model for repartition of dislocation cell structures and transition of subgrains on a three-stage hardening of single crystal are developed. Stress-effect coefficients models are proposed in order to introduce stress information into the reaction-diffusion equations. A FD simulation for dislocation patterning and a FE one for crystal deformation are simultaneously carried out for an FCC single crystal. It is numerically predicted that a cell structures are repartitioned and the generated dislocation pattern in stage III can be regarded as a subgrain.
