Abstract: Anodic oxidation treatment of commercial pure titanium was carried out at the voltage of 30, 50 V in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution so as to obtain the effects of the anodic potential on the surface characteristic and corrosion resistance of passive film. The morphology and corrosion resistance of the treated samples were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrode impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results show that increasing anodic potential can significantly enhance the corrosion resistance of commercial pure titanium.

Abstract: The commercial pure titanium plate was shot vertically by the projectile with a diameter of 7.62mm at impact velocities ranging from 782m/s to 825m/s. The microstructure around the crater of commercial pure titanium plate was analyzed by optical microscopy (OM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) methods. It was found that different microstructures were observed along the depth of cater. In upper region of the crater, grains were deformed and fragmented. Adiabatic shear bands (ASBs) were observed in the middle of the crater, and some ASBs were bifurcated. At the bottom of the crater, the grains were less deformed, and the deformation twins were formed. The microstructures in the center of adiabatic shear band were mainly consisted of the dynamic recrystallization grains and sub-grains. The microstructure in the transition region was elongated grains along the shear stress distribution.

Abstract: Ti and Ti alloys are widely used as metallic implants, because of their good mechanical properties and nontoxic behavior. However, they have problems as the implant-materials, namely, high Young’s modulus comparing that of bone and low bonding ability with bone. There is a need to develop the Ti and Ti alloys with lower Young’s modulus and good bonding ability. In previous study, Ti composite containing biodegradable poly-L-lactic-acid (PLLA) fiber has been fabricated to improve these problems. However, this composite has low strength because of the imperfect sintering of Ti matrix. To improve its strength, sintering of Ti matrix should be completed. In this study, Ti-NaCl composite material was fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) method using powder mixture of Ti and NaCl to complete the sintering of Ti matrix. To obtain porous Ti samples, Ti-NaCl composite were put into hot water of 100 oC. The porous Ti was dipped into PLLA melt in order to introduce PLLA into the pores of porous Ti. Finally, Ti-PLLA composite was obtained, and PLLA plays a role as reinforcement of Ti matrix. It was found that the Ti-PLLA composite has gradient structure and mechanical properties.

Abstract: The paper investigated nano-crystallization on surface layer of commercial pure titanium by using high-energy shot peening. The grain size and the microstructure in deformed surface layer by high-energy shot peening are analyzed with X-ray diffraction and TEM etc. In addition, the variations of surface microhardness are examined after high-energy shot peening. The results described that the nano-crystalline surface layer have been formed in commercial pure titanium with a structure of hexagonal closet packet, by high-energy shot peening. The surface microhardness increases and the grain size in nano-crystalline surface layer diminishes, with increasing the time in high-energy shot peening. The minimum nano-crystalline grain size is approximately 40 nm.
