Abstract: A simple and robust methodology is presented to identify damages in a structure using changes in vibration data. A comparison is made among damage indicators such as natural frequencies, mode shape data, curvature damage factors and flexibility matrices to study their efficacy in damage assessment. Continuous ant colony optimization (ACOR) technique is used to solve the inverse problem related to damage identification. The outcome of the simulated results demonstrates that the flexibility matrix as a damage indicator provides better damage identification.

Abstract: The barrier-free environment is the guarantee for the vulnerable groups such as the senior citizens and the disabled, which reflects the civilization level of the society. And America and Britain are the most advanced countries which have longer history of barrier-free design. Their barrier-free design laws, regulations and standard system are complete, covering a wide range of security objects and having developed into the universal design or inclusive design stage with their own features. The barrier-free design of China was carried out late and yet within 30 years’ development, China still has made many achievements. However, in terms of scientific research and civil consciousness, the gap to the developed countries is still big. Summarizing the development trend of American and British barrier-free design features, comparison can provide the working direction for the barrier-free design cause of China, namely, the improvement of the researches on barrier-free design, the functions of organizations for the disabled, public participation and regulations enforcement.

Abstract: The main purpose of the research is to find out the similarities or differences in employing foreign language learning strategies between female students and male students of Engineering Design Specialty. The investigation instruments included a questionnaire and Statistical Product and Service Solutions. There are altogether 41 valid questionnaires. The results show that both female students and male students of Engineering Design Specialty sometimes use the foreign language learning strategies at medium level. Male students use memory strategies, metacognitive strategies and affective strategies more frequently than female students, while female students use compensation strategies more frequently than male students. There is no statistically significant difference between female students and male students in using both direct learning strategies and indirect learning strategies, including memory strategies, compensation strategies, metacognitive strategies, affective strategies.

Abstract: In this paper, four typical building roof modules, i.e., sedum linear module, lightweight planting soil module, water-retaining board module and XPS module, were experimentally investigated by using the guarded hot box under real weather condition in Guangzhou, China. The testing results were compared and analyzed regarding to three main properties of the roof module, i.e., the top and bottom surface temperatures of the modules, air temperature inside the inner box of the guarded hot box and temperature attenuation characteristics for the thermal insulation of the modules. It was found that the sedum linear module performed well in the thermal insulation property under the typical summer weather condition. The analysis results could be used to assist in the application of the green roof module, and contribute to the energy conservation of the buildings.

Abstract: Comparative study on permanganate and ozone as pre-oxidation agents were performed on pilot scale with traditional drinking water treatment process, chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC), UV254, turbidity, trihalomethane formation potential (THMFP) were examined at each reactor’s effluent. The results show that at pre-oxidation reactor, the total organic remained stable after by the two agents, while for UV254, pre-ozonation has a removal rate of 34%, comparing that of 17% by permanganate. At the sedimentation process, 0.4 mg/L permanganate improves the removal rate of turbidity and COD by 0.99 % and 8.4%, respectively; while a positive COD removal of 11.8 % was achieved by 0.9 mg/L pre-ozonation, and an average of-10.08% turbidity removal was achieved at applied dosage (0.5, 0,9 and 1.5 mg/L), which can be made up for in the followed sand filtration reactor. Both permanganate and pre-ozonation show higher removal rate of THMFP for the finished water.

Abstract: Green building evaluation standards provide references for green building design. This paper did comparative and empirical research on evaluation points and design strategies of Chinese Green Building Evaluation Standard and American LEED-NC 2009, and analyzed the differences between their orientation and applicability. The conclusion shows that the strategy of GBES is more suitable for local green buildings in China.

Abstract: The paper presents the cavitation stand used, the work methodology, the trials realized on specimens of gray cast irons, with flake graphite and spheroidal-graphite, which were tested for cavitation erosion during different periods of time of the cavitation attack. Finally, the conclusions were interpreted on the basis of comparative graphics realized at the macro and microstructures level obtained for these two types of cast iron. Of the two types of gray cast iron, the nodular cast iron presents a better cavitation erosion resistance.

Abstract: By comparative testing and studying and analyzing on the area and range of flow regime influenced during the uniform water flow with free surface and definite depth flowing around varied pile clusters, The author had found and summarized and concluded many scientific laws, which of flowing around pile cluster effect on the uniform water flow, the natural and extents disparity of varied pile cluster effect on the same uniform water flow, the area and range of flow regime influenced during flowing around varied pile clusters. And had found that the influenced extent and scope of flowing around square pile cluster effecting on the uniform water flow more than that of cylinder pile cluster. For a pile cluster, in the way of influenced extent and scope of flowing around the pile cluster, the ratio of obstruct the water flow more than the density of pile lines, and Reynolds number influence the extent and scope of flowing around pile cluster in big degree. It is even more superiority that people adopt the small size pile than the big size pile about pile cluster on water conservancy project.

Abstract: In the expansive soil steep slope treatment, research and generalize FRP materials anchor bolt instead of steel anchor bolt. Selected appropriate expansive soil slope on the premise of comparability .Made FRP bolt and steel bolt contrast test formulation. The two types of anchor, stress, displacement, crack, ultimate bearing capacity test results contrast were analysed. It is concluded that the total effect of the four aspects of two kinds of bolt support is almost. But from the perspectives of durability, taken together, should change the traditional slope supporting methods, and the FRP bolt faster and more widely used in the expansive soil slope supporting.

Abstract: In this paper, the flue gas desulfurization gypsum (FGD) generated from thermal power plant is used to produce high strength gypsum. The basic properties of super high strength gypsum prepared by FGD gypsum are investigated based on the test results of strength, thermal expansion rate, crystal appearance and size. The results indicate that the properties of high strength gypsum prepared by FGD gypsum above α50 standard. This can be a reference for gypsum-based α super high-strength gypsum related product development.
