Abstract: Cutting properties of interpenetrating network composites are important to ensure machining quality. The cutting force signals were measured by resistance strain gage of octagonal ring style and data acquisition and processing system. The results show that the cutting forces are affected by cutting conditions. To average cutting forces of interpenetrating network composites, the laws are basically consistent with that of the traditional materials. Because of the reinforced phase, the sudden cutting forces arise in cutting process whose values are relate to cutting parameters and reinforced phase dimensions.

Abstract: A knife blade cutting experiment was performed to study the effect of clearance between two knife blades on cutting only one layer of a multi-layer thin film. The multi-layer thin films are made up of three major layers: a 0.1mm Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) layer, a 25 ~ 50 μm elastic plastic layer, and a 0.18 mm paper layer. The clearance between two knife blades is controlled by a micro manual stage. The cutting parameters are the clearance of knife blades, the edge of knife blades, and cutting speed. The relationships between layers to be cut and clearance between knife blades are measured using specific knife blades and a constant cut speed. Using the experimental results, several criteria for cutting paper layer are critically assessed. Through assessment of the criteria, the paper layer alone is practicably removed from multi-layer thin film. This experiment successfully provided a method to cut a specific layer but other layers of multi-layer thin film at once.

Abstract: The tap cutter is one of the key equipment for the pipeline maintenance and rush repair, which in intended to solve broken tooth due to continuous cutting and impact during tapping. Three kinds of tap cutter optimization schemes are put forward and the finite element design and cutting experiment are applied to study its cutting property. The results show that, the optimized tooth can improve the tapping effect, largely enhance the cutting property, which has reached the level of the most advanced TDW tap cutter; thus, it is of great importance on the efficiency improvement and cost saving of the domestic pipeline maintenance and rush repair.

Abstract: PRS-XY hybrid NC machine tool is a 5-degree-of-freedom cutting machine, which is composed of a 3-degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism and a 2-degree-of-freedom series mechanism, and can be applied to machining and testing of machine parts with complex surface. In this paper, the kinematics principle of the machining tool is analyzed, and the kinematics model for calculating the location of the real control axis is deduced. Through the cutting experiment of a typical part, the kinematics principle of the PRS-XY hybrid machining tool is validated, and the results also indicated that the machining tool has the multi-coordinates machining ability and preferable machining precision.
