Abstract: Anchoring metal on TiO2 by photoreduction process characterized as adsorbent and photocatalyst is the target in this study. Metal anchored TiO2 is expected to remove acid-odors well at room temperature. Besides the adsorption and absorption mechanism, the material could also decompose the acid-odors by photocatalysis process under UV irradiation. Thus the removal efficiency of acid-odors processed via metal anchored TiO2 could be better than those of the common adsorbent and photocatalyst no matter with or without UV irradiation, the service life of the decontamination via metal anchored TiO2 is also extended more than common adsorbent. According to the comparisons between TiO2 and various porous materials during acid-odors adsorption, Beta type zeolite shows the best efficiency due to the maximum silica-alumina ratio and excellent specific surface area. However, Ag anchored TiO2(Ag-TiO2) via photoreduction process can improve the photocatalysis efficiency of acid-odors; at the same time, Ag on TiO2 surface also reacts with acetic acid in the chemical absorption mechanism with or without UV illumination. The regeneration activation procedure can carry away and desorb the acetic acid from Ag-TiO2. With UV irradiation, the Ag on oxidation state will attract the electrons excited from TiO2, and reduce itself to Ag on metal state, which is reactive to acetic acid; hence, the adsorption and photocatalysis efficiency of acid-odors via the regenerated Ag-TiO2 is similar to brand new ones.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to use the surplus sludge from sewage treatment plant and prepare sewage sludge adsorbent in order to use the adsorbent to remove the hydrogen sulfide from sewage treatment plant. To eliminate the secondary pollution of sludge and odor, it is a strategy of controlling waste by waste and reclamation. Meanwhile, research the process and mechanism of adsorbent’s deodorization, pursue the possibility of the adsorbent’s practical application.

Abstract: TiO2 and HA thin film double coating has been proposed. The TiO2/HA thin film was coated on the glass by a Radio Frequency magnetron sputtering, and the characteristic of the thin film has been studied. The absorption of Formaldehyde (HCHO) gas in the TiO2/HA thin film was detected by gas chromatography, and the sterilization of Escherichia coli (E. coli) was evaluated in the antibacterial test. In the deodorization test, HCHO gas remained 0[%], 11[%] and 85[%] for TiO2/HA thin film, TIO2 thin film and thin film respectively. The sterilization result shows that E. coli for TiO2/HA thin film and HA thin film decreased 89[%] and 75[%] respectively.

Abstract: The application of VOC-free materials for building interior is the first step to reduce the contamination level, however, it is practically unavoidable to find a way to eliminate existing pollutants from furniture, adhesives, etc. As a positive way of controlling the air indooors, the air conditioner may be applied with high functional filter, which uses electricity for compulsory air circulation. As an alternative, we modified natural zeolite powder by ion exchange and also by addition of TiO2 photo-catalyst for multifunctional powder to contribute to controlling the indoor air quality. The modified zeolites were applied on the interior non-woven polypropylene sheet to reduce indoor air pollutants not only by adsorption mechanism but also by decomposition mechanism. We studied deodorization of the multi-functional powders and also their coating on non-woven textiles by a Gastec method.

Abstract: In this paper, a low concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) was added to the hydroxyapatite ceramics to develop HA/H2O2 compound. The HA/H2O2 was tested for the whitening and deodorizing ability. HA/H2O2 composite was added with glycerin and was tested on the enamel layer for lightness changes on the tooth layer. The lightness result was compared with 100[ppm] of H2O2 treatment by Spectro Color Meter and enamel layers structure observation by optical microscope. In deodorization test, 20[g] of clove garlic and slice garlic were identified for garlic aroma peak. 20[g] of HA/H2O2 compound, HA alone and charcoal respectively were tested for the garlic aroma adsorption ability. Identification and quantification of the garlic aroma peak area decrease was observed by gas chromatography. In the whitening result, HA/H2O2 compound and H2O2 alone treatment obtained 68 and 67 respectively. From the structure observation, HA/H2O2 composite treatment was the best since the smooth and unharmed enamel layer of the tooth was observed. Deodorization ability for HA/H2O2 compound has the similarity rate as charcoal at 82.3[%]. The HA/H2O2 composite has an ability of whitening and deodorizing at even low concentration.
