Abstract: The tooth-surfaces of corrected planar double-enveloping worm wheel were established by programming in MATLAB with the theory of spatial engagement. The contact lines were analyzed, and the contact styles were classified with given parameters. A new method of judging the types of contact lines was brought out. Based on the theory of spatial engagement, the re-machined planar double-enveloping worm gear is established by programming with MATLAB software. The contact lines on the worm wheel tooth-surface are analyzed and given the method of the contact line kind judgment.

Abstract: In this paper, modulation sidebands about the tooth meshing frequency in a two stages planetary gear reducer vibration are investigated. The two stages gear reducer is developed using double-enveloping cycloid drive with a K-H-V planetary gear. Firstly, the double-enveloping cycloid drive and the meshing characteristics are introduced. Secondly, the meshing frequencies and the sidebands of this prototype gear reducer are calculated based on a model, which explains the modulation in terms of the motion of the planets relative to the location of the transducer. Thirdly, the experiment vibration spectrums are compared with the calculated results. And the comparisons between the simulation and calculation results show good agreement.

Abstract: This paper proposes a new method for creating the accurate 3D geometry model of the plane enveloping hourglass worm efficiently. The working tooth surfaces of the worm are enveloped by the mother plane surfaces. And according to the gear engagement theory, the equations of the surfaces enveloped are established. By combination with engineering practice, the geometrical features of the surface enveloped are analyzed, and one of its features is that it is a ruled surface consisted of countless straight lines which are contact lines. For ∑(u, Φ1), which represents the surface enveloped, let the variable u equals two values respectively, and two helix curves are gained. Connect the two curves with a ruled surface, and make sure that the ruled surface is consisted of contact lines. So the surface gained is a enveloped surface with no error existing in theory. Once the surfaces enveloped are gained, it’s easy to create the geometry model of the worm. Using UG, the paper provides an example showing how to create the worm’s model, and the new method and a past method are both used to create the model. The new method not only creates an accurate model, but also improves the efficiency. For example, at the time-consuming step for creating the surface enveloped, compared with the past method, the new method is able to save approximate 94% of the time.

Abstract: A universal modification theory is developed for all kinds of hourglass worm drives, no matter what shape the generating surface of the worm is. Based on the theory established, toroidal worm drives can be classified into two main categories: with singular points and without singular points. That is to say, the unmodified hourglass worm gearing is merely a special case of the modified one in essence. Furthermore, the meshing characteristics of a double-enveloping toroidal worm drive are entirely up to the situation of the solution of the meshing equation of the second envelope.
