Abstract: The paper presents the results of metallographic studies of laser and plasma cutting methods of high-strength steel for the purpose of its application for the preparation of sample edges without subsequent machining. It is shown that as a result of the thermal and physical-chemical processes in heat affected one (HAZ), there is a change in the phase and chemical composition of the metal. The depth of the HAZ is changed from 261 μm to 337 μm. The maximum hardness at the cutting edge is 410 HV10. On the surface after the laser cutting there is an oxidized layer of metal, saturated with oxygen, nitrogen and other gases as a result of contact with the oxygen jet and the surrounding air; its thickness is hundredths or even thousandths of a millimeter. A feature of the plasma cutting method is the formation of a deeper oxide layer on the surface with a thickness of 9...14 μm, in contrast to the laser cutting method. The analysis of existing research to improve the technology of repair welding of low-carbon steel is performed. The obtained results can be used in the development of high-strength steel grades welding technology in terms of preparation of edges for welding using thermal cutting methods, which are currently quite conservative.

Abstract: This document deals with the determination of thermal transmission properties of wood-aluminium window with vacuum glazing. Test measurements are performed with guarded hot-box method at defined temperature difference. They describe how the support pillars influence temperature distribution on the surface and how the edge vacuum glazing influence the heat flow through window. The deformation of the temperature field due to support pillars is surprisingly small and its range is from 0.20 K to 0.46 K with temperature difference on both sides of approximately 20 K. Decrease of internal surface temperature from the middle of glass to the edge is about 20.04 – 16.15 = 3.89 K.

Abstract: This paper describes the application of loose-abrasive processes to the manufacture of 1.4 meter, off-axis aspheric, hexagonal mirror-segments. These are prototypes for the 39 m European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT). The application of active forces to correct the overall form of segments in the telescope, means that the overall form-accuracy achieved in polishing can be less critical than for a non-active mirror. However, it is a requirement that the base-radii and conic constants of mirror-segments are very closely matched, so that the combined image is not degraded. This means that abrasive processes have to operate with respect to an absolute rather than relative datum. Furthermore, there are stringent requirements on mid-spatial frequency defects on segment surfaces, and on edge-roll. These control stray-light, and ultimately detectability of faint astronomical targets. We describe the CNC abrasive techniques we have developed in response. We then demonstrate the success of the approach, which represents the first time ever that segments have been processed entirely in the hexagonal shape:- a milestone in loose-abrasive processing. Finally, we address up-scale for the unprecedented number of segments required for the E-ELT build-phase.

Abstract: In order to improve the effect of remote video monitoring system, a new image mosaic technology based on fuzzy cellular automata detection is presented. Firstly, the edge feature points from two images are extracted by fuzzy cellular automata; secondly, the corresponding feature point pairs are got by the cross-correlation of the gray scale around the edge feature points; finally the images can be stitched by matched edge feature point pairs. The experiment of remote viewing image mosaic in substation shows that this method can achieve image mosaic effectively and it will be benefit to improve the safety and reliability of substation operation.

Abstract: Laser cooling is one of the critical problems in the research of high power semiconductor lasers. This paper provides an overview of microchannel heat sink which is used to cool the high power semiconductor lasers. The method of polishing after cutting is the current processing method of the heat sink, which is because the ordinary cutting method cannot meet the requirements of high quality of surface and edge burrs. This paper proposes ultra-precision fly cutting method for heat sink machining to omit the polishing processing to improve the machining efficiency, and verifies by experiments that the feasibility of the processing method and the edge quality improved by workpiece superposition processing method.

Abstract: Lane detection is a crucial component of automotive driver assistance system aiming to increase safety, convenience and efficiency of driving. This paper developed a vision based algorithm of detecting road lanes which is performed by extracting edges and finding straight lines using improved Hough transform. The experimental results indicate that this algorithm is effective and precise. Furthermore, this algorithm paves the way for the implementation of automotive driver assistance system.

Abstract: The closely combination of Internet of Things and on-site monitoring and control technology is the development tendency of the site monitoring and control technology, especially the special equipment safety monitoring technology. EDGE technology is one way of Internet of Things technology realization. EDGE technology is a digital mobile phone technology which allows improved data transmission rates as a backward-compatible extension of GSM. It is also considered as a pre-3G (2.75G) radio technology and is part of ITU's 3G definition. It is used as one of the aims of the project which allows the operators to keep abreast of the crane operation status. Then a software platform is developed to monitor the real-time stress. A software platform is developed via a lot of preliminary work as mentioned above. The information is collected by FBG sensors and transmitted to the demodulator, and then the software calculates strain by a formula given in. Finally we acquire the real-time stress in different parts of the crane. If the real-time stress exceeds the allowable stress, it issues an alarm signal to the operator.

Abstract: Detection of preceding vehicles is a critical step in automotive driver assistance systems aiming to alert a driver about driving environments and possible collision with other vehicles. This paper developed an algorithm of detecting preceding vehicles based on computer vision, which exploits synthetically the vertical edge, shadow underneath vehicle, horizontal edge and symmetry features. The experimental results indicate that this algorithm is effective and precise.

Abstract: Connection of internal and external board of automobile body‘s door cover is usually stamped by traditional mold and pressing machine, Because outer edge outline should be changed according to the change of car body outline and edge angles along the outline are also different, it’s very difficult to edge the area with sharp edge transition and too big edge angle. Robot edge fixture, the new design technology of internal and external board connection, is composed of seven parts, including edge mold, platform, lifting mechanism, testing institution, clamping unit, logic gas and electric control system, which overcomes shortcomings of traditional stamping edge mold, such as covering much area, costing high and having poor flexibility, shortens development cycle and of automobile and enhances the competitiveness of products.
