Abstract: Fall detection systems for the elderly are very important to protect this type of users. The early detection of the fall of the elderly has a major impact on saving their lives and avoiding the deterioration of the negative medical effects resulting from the effect of the patient falling on a hard surface. One of the constraints in fall detection systems are false-negative errors (no fall detection) or false-positive errors (sending a false warning without real fall accident). These errors have to be reduced significantly. In this paper, an innovative method to reduce fall detection system errors is proposed. The system consists of two orientation detection sensors to track the body orientation instead of using a single sensor in the previous systems which enhances the system accuracy and reduces the false-negative and false-positive errors. The system uses a small size IoT-based controller to process the sensor's information and make the alarm decision based on specific thresholds. The output alarm of the system includes an email sent to the caregivers via the embedded Wi-Fi ESP8266 module as well as an SMS message to the caregivers’ phones via GSM modules to ensure that the alarm message arrives in the absence of internet coverage for the patient or the caregiver. The system is powered by a small lithium-Ion battery. All sensors and modules of the system are combined in a small rubber box that can be fixed in a waist belt or the chest rejoin of the user body. Several tests have been made in different procedures. The tests revealed that the new approach improves the accuracy of the system and reduces the possibility of triggering wrong alarms.

Abstract: In this paper, an embedded facial recognition system whose platform consists of pcDuono-V2 board with ARM-processor inside and a Linux-kernel-based operating system, Ubuntu, is implemented. A camera is set up on the platform to take human face images. A facial recognition program consisting of AdaBoost algorithm, Haar-like features, integral image method, and cascade classifiers is utilized to recognize images. The AdaBoost algorithm is a modified Boosting algorithm, which is a machine learning algorithm for training cascade stronger classifiers based on Haar-like features, where Haar-like features are the foundation of the recognition. An integral image method is used to speed up the calculation of corresponding rectangle feature values for Haar-like features. The whole facial recognition comprises facial training procedures and recognition procedures. In facial training procedures, sufficient amounts of positive and negative picture samples are necessary for getting Haar-like features to the recognition system. AdaBoost algorithm is then used to the system for training cascade stronger classifiers which are the detection tools in recognition procedures. While in facial recognition procedures, after getting the Haar-like features for the target images or pictures, cascade stronger classifiers work to detect and recognize. According to the experimental results, the resultant embedded system can recognize the experimental subjects in one second for every our considered situations, which assures the real-time performance.

Abstract: It is the hotpot to study the application of stochastic resonance (SR) in the field of mechanical fault diagnosis. The fault diagnosis system based on SR was developed, using “ARM+DSP” dual-core structure as hardware and embedded system as software, implemented signal acquisition, data storage, data analysis, waveform display and so on. The SR was adopted as characteristic quantity to analyze vibration signals for fault diagnosis. The experiment results showed that the function of portable fault diagnosis instrument is stable. It has veracity and validity.

Abstract: This work proposes a technique for optimizing data placement of application-wide reused data so that it resides in scratchpad memory of processing elements in multiprocessor system on chips. The proposed technique identifies data elements with fine granularity that can profitably be placed in the scratchpad memories to maximize performance and energy gains. We present a heuristic approach that efficiently exploits the scratchpad memories using memory access footprint. Our experimental results indicate that our approach is able to reduce energy consumption by 30% over cache based memory subsystems.

Abstract: Embedded systems demand to take high performance while executing on batteries. In such environment, the systems must be optimized with available technique to reduce energy consumption while not sacrificing performance. Especially, in mobile devices, power consumption is an important design constraint. Switching activity accounts for over 90% of total power consumption in a digital circuit. In this paper, we describe an approach to design instruction format for low power instruction fetch. The proposed method reduces switching activity of the instruction fetch logic by using a heuristic that minimizes switching between adjacent instructions. To do this, the proposed approach encodes opcodes so that frequently executed instruction pairs have smaller bit changes.

Abstract: This paper proposes the introduction of embedded technology in dust monitoring system to realize real-time monitoring online in factories. Taking S3C2440 as hardware platform and embedded Linux the developmental environment, the system also introduces a development kit Qt/Embedded from high-performance embedded system GUI. With a soft-hardware system scheme, it realizes the design of real-time monitoring on parameters like dust concentration in the air. Much emphasis has been laid on the analysis of system composition, working theory, hardware design and software development. Integrating functions of displaying, information processing, monitoring etc., the system has such advantages as high-speed, accuracy, high sensitivity and stable performance, and can be matched with various monitoring systems.

Abstract: With the rapid growth of China's economy, and the gradually improvement of the people's living standard, the car has become an indispensable means of transportation in our lives, and its number is increasing. So, the demand for the quality and scale is also growing. In order to meet the needs of daily parking management, this paper designed a kind of efficient embedded parking lot management system based on RFID. The system takes the Micro2440 embedded development board as the hardware platform and the Linux operating system as the software platform. It can gather vehicle information from RFID electronic tag cyclically to control the switch of the gate and broadcast the received information. After running and testing, the system has completed the initial design goals stable, and the operation is very. It has a certain application value.
