Abstract: As the manufacturing industry rapidly evolves with the emergence of virtual and augmented reality technologies, engineering education must adapt to prepare students for these advancements. This paper proposes a comprehensive framework for integrating Virtual reality (VR and Augmented reality (AR) into computer-aided manufacturing curricula at the university level. The framework outlines strategies for incorporating immersive technologies into traditional CAD and CAM coursework, aiming to enhance student’s understanding of complex manufacturing processes and improve their practical skills. By leveraging tools such as Siemens NX VR module and AR platforms, the framework facilitates a more interactive and engaging learning environment, allowing students to visualize, manipulate, and test designs in a virtual space before physical production. The study also discusses the challenges of implementing VR and AR in educational environments, including technical, financial, and pedagogical considerations, and provides solutions to address these issues. The results suggest that integrating VR and AR can significantly enrich the educational experience, equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary for the future of digital manufacturing.

Abstract: Industrial image processing technology is widely introduced and applied in various fields such as industrial plants, bio-medical industry, agro technology, and also environmental fields. In addition, image acquisition devices are getting more compact and installed onto mobile phones and handy terminals. Which means that we always carry the devices, and can easily take images (still image and moving pictures) of good quality with high resolution, anytime and anywhere. In the research field, 2D code, known as QR code or Data Matrix, has a great potential for industrial applications. As we already know, QR code has been spread and used with various usage likewise ID recognition, URL display on the sticker, and/or the financial transaction's confirmation processing. Not only QR code, but Data Matrix is also frequently used as the printed tag on various material such as metal, wood, or plastic parts. These are used as a product ID or serial number to be recognized by using a mobile terminal. The 2D code technology can be a powerful tool to check and trace the marketing channel of each part of the product. On the other hand, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been proposed since 2015, researched and introduced to improve our environment and life. This paper describes the proposals of new application technology related to the concept of SDGs. The main contents are based on science and technology, but these have been developed and implemented by the young students of the college. The process and the details are described in the paper.

Abstract: The goal of this paper is to show that one can teach mechanical design making the students aware about the sustainability issues in mechanical engineering by incorporating obsolete parts. The example herein developed aims at finding viable design solutions by re-using end-of-life components to perform functions that are very similar to the ones for which they were initially designed, with only minor adjustments to make them suitable for their new purposes. A Savonius wind turbine was chosen for our exercise since it is easy to build and assemble, has low manufacturing costs and is appropriate for delivering a small amount of mechanical power.

Abstract: The authors of the article carried out the analysis of the teaching need for the subject of engineering change at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. The conducted investigation was based on evaluating the situation of the engineering change process and on innovative knowledge in the field. The examination of literature sources and the results of expert evaluation pointed out a number of activities to support the engineering change process. The activities must be provided with relevant innovative knowledge. Recent engineering changes are related to product and process innovations when the new functions and purposes of product development can be, in many cases, achieved through designing mechatronic systems and introducing new materials to improve the product. Engineering change management is important for designing and producing products. For this reason, the modules of study programmes in this particular field give more knowledge and abilities for the students.

Abstract: With the development in virtual reality technology, it has been applied in kinds of fields, e.g. education and engineering. This article introduces the concept and basic features of virtual reality, the application of VR in education and engineering, the building procedures and the functions of the virtual system with the case of the virtual Storage Cavern system. The system is consisted of four parts which enables students to understand and grasp the basic operation, maintenance, and standard accident responses more effectively than other teaching methods.

Abstract: The term Internet of Things as a component of Future Internet is a recent fast growing global network infrastructure which extends Internet with a sensors and actuators shield. The paper presents a hands-on learning kit based on an open standard embedded computer connected to Internet enabling live data processing. The system uses cloud programming tools to add significant value to the education purpose, by including up-to-date innovative technical approaches and pedagogical values for improving the attractiveness and efficiency of the education activities in the engineering area. The learning goal intends to develop the Internet of things as new universe based on smart objects, connected to the Internet via adequate sensors and actuators. This can be an essential tool for a deeper understanding of the main concepts in physics, informatics and math, even in the early steps of learning. Based on cloud programming resources, the hardware-software components use the latest version of low power 32-bit embedded computer development platform and process interfaces to allow data monitoring, remote physical experiments, mobile world supervising, and collaborative project development. As an open standard learning tool, the kit offers a new computational framework able to serve in scientific experiments and discovery-based learning. This study was strongly motivated by the European Union recommendation to support and enrich the university curriculum by engaging students in hands-on engineering and design activities.

Abstract: This paper is concerned with the relationship between the industry structure and discipline structure of higher education in Fujian province of China. It draws on the data about the industry structure from the Fujian Statistical Yearbook (2005-2012) and the data about the discipline structure from Fujian Education Statistical Yearbook (1949-2012). After correlation analysis and comparison analysis between the industry structure in the GDP value and the labor in Fujian Province from 2005-2012 and the discipline structure in Fujian’s universities and colleges from2005-2012, this article concludes that the industry structure decides the discipline structure of higher education in a district and the discipline structure also affects the industry structure, and for the universities and colleges in Fujian Province, they should pay more attention to the development of engineering programs, increase the enrollment of them and relatively decrease the enrollment of the art students.

Abstract: This paper presents a new virtual environment aimed to the realization of dimensional metrology practices, in the framework of the Degree in Mechanical Engineering of Technical University of Madrid. The development of this project allows the implementation of an interactive teaching model, focused on the student, which combines master classes and virtual applications, in an environment known as DE–learning (driven e-learning). This teaching tool directs and helps students on an individual way in the dynamic and interactive practice development. In particular, this module simulates the functioning, calibration and measurements using a horizontal coordinate measuring machine (HCMM). The program interface has been developed trying to create an easy-to-use environment for the students, in order to be a first contact with the HCMM and its possible metrological applications.

Abstract: "Excellence Engineer education program" is an important move to promote the engineering education power in China. In most colleges, the implementation of “excellence Engineer education program” relies mainly on industrial basic training course (also known as metalworking practice) to improve the engineering quality of students. Students learn basic knowledge, theory, and skill in classroom, and fundamental industrial training course further allows students to develop problem solving capability in real world by offering fundamental engineering training. Technology advancement drives deeper technology specialization, requiring college students to develop higher level of engineering competence, including fundamental technology capability, fundamental engineering capability, and creativity. This article draws from working experience, summarizes and analyzes three new measures of industry training, including (1) lab assistant, (2) creativity project, and (3) open lab guidance. The article also discusses the roles of these measures for improving student engineering competence in the implementation of “excellence Engineer education plan”.
