Abstract: Compression ignition engines with ethyl alcohol as a fuel are associated with some problems. Because of ethyl alcohol has high self-ignition temperature. It can be used in compression engine by hot surface ignition method which is used to resolve the ignition of the fuel. The modification of the engine is carried out in such a way that a pre combustion chamber is designed in engine head with a provision for heat plug is made on the pre combustion chamber. A piston with squish plate is designed and thermally analyzed. The squish piston helps for attaining better homogeneous mixture than conventional piston. Thus the better combustion is obtained with the squish piston resulting with higher adiabatic flame temperature than the conventional piston. When air is inducted into the combustion chamber it is exposed to high temperature. Modifications for pure ethyl alcohol made significant improvement in thermal efficiency, torque and reduction in specific fuel consumption of an engine. The results exhibit a path toward ethyl alcohol has an effective alternative to conventional diesel engines.

Abstract: In this study, the friction and wear properties of the siliconized, chromized and borochromized SS 400 steel/Si3N4 tribopairs were investigated in ethyl alcohol at 298 K. The surface of the siliconized plate specimens mainly consisted of Fe3Si, while the surfaces of the chromized and borochromized steel plate specimens were mainly composed of Fe-Cr alloy and Cr2B phases, respectively. The borochromized specimens exhibited the highest microvickers hardness of all the plate specimens. Also, it was found that both the chromized and borochromized steel specimens exhibited friction coefficients as low as 0.2 in ethyl alcohol, and that the friction coefficients of the siliconized steel specimens were slightly lower than those of the non-coated steel specimens.

Abstract: The content of free MgCl2 is one of the key indicators of deliquescence, dehalogenation and efflorescence for Magnesium Oxychloride Cement (MOC). A range of possible techniques for assessing the free MgCl2 content of MOC have been investigated. The techniques are based on mixing powdered samples with absolute ethyl alcohol and measuring the amount of MgCl2 passing into solution. The influence of temperature of solvent, extraction time, fineness, agitation and liquid to solid ratio (L/S) are discussed. The results of recovery tests ranged 96.37% or above. The method is successfully applied to leaching and detecting free MgCl2 in commercial magnesium oxychloride cement fireproof board.

Abstract: The gas sensors are fabricated from multiwalled carbon nanotube-based. The electrode is constructed from platinum (Pt) and titanium (Ti). The gas sensors are used for detecting oxygen (O2), ethyl alcohol (C2H5OH) and ammonia (NH3) by measuring the charge of their electrical capacitance. In the ratio silicon dioxide (SiO2) : carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) = 100:1 by weight, the electrical capacitance of the film layer has changed at the highest rate. The response of oxygen with concentration of 10,000 ppm, 20% of ethyl alcohol and 20% of ammonia, it is found that the electrical capacitance of thin layer has change about 34%, 60% and 70%.
