Paper TitlePage

Abstract: The effects of angle of convergence on the shape and thickness of the core are analyzed theoretically by considering variable film thickness in an externally pressurized circular thrust bearing. Using the assumptions of the lubrication theory, modified Reynold’s equation and the governing equations are obtained. Using the boundary conditions of the problem in the constitutive equations we get the velocity of the core region as well as flow region. By considering the equilibrium of an element in the yield surface, an algebraic equation to determine the thickness of the yield surface is derived. Numerical solutions are obtained for the thickness of yield surface and velocities for various values of Bingham Numbers and the angle of convergence.

Abstract: The flow passage including supply hole of externally pressurized gas was investigated. The outlet velocity of supply hole, bearing number and supply pressure’s relationship were built. According to supply hole’s speed, supersonic or subsonic model was chosen to calculate bearing clearance’s pressure distribution. Bearing number’s effects on pressure’s distribution was also studied. The calculation result shows that at larger bearing number, supply hole’s speed is harder to be chocked. Both in supersonic and subsonic condition, larger bearing number produces lower pressure loss.

Abstract: Because of many advantages that other kinds of bearings can not match, for example high precision and high speed, gas lubricated bearing has been used widely in areas such as ultra-precision machine tool and inertia apparatus. The paper introduced an orifice restrictor externally pressurized spherical gas bearing, which is easily shaped and has bigger stiffness in both axial and radial directions. The paper also introduced a bearing force calculation model based on finite partition of the bearing, in which the influence of the uniform pressure slot also considered.
