Abstract: In order analyze the inter-harmonic affections on the voltage flicker, the relationship between the inter-harmonics and flicker analysis are carried out. In order to be able to accurately determine the level of inter-harmonics to make the electric light flicker, interharmonic-flicker limit curve drawing method based on the voltage flicker constraints is established. And according to IEC lamp-eye-brain model, analog tester flicker and interharmonic-flicker experimental platform are built; limit curve can be drawn through the experimental data. The 2 kinds of harmonic-flicker limit curves for the 220 V, 50 Hz fluorescent lamp are drawn by the 2 methods separately, and the analysis results show that the accuracy of the results obtained by the two methods, the level of interharmonics whether lead to fluorescent flicker can be determined by the curves. The methods have the small amount of calculation, and are practical and easy to implement.

Abstract: The increase amount of industrial wastes is becoming a serious worldwide environmental problem, which is aggravated by wastes containing toxic substances. This is the case of fluorescent lamps that use mercury vapor for light emission. At the end of their operational life these lamps should not be directly disposed to avoid the Hg toxic effects. Decontamination procedures take the Hg away but leave the other parts of the lamp as solid wastes. The mains part is the lamp glass, which finds many ways to be recycled. In the present work a fluorescent lamp glass waste was investigated as a possible material to be incorporated into a cement matrix as part of a civil construction concrete. Different amounts of waste up to 20 wt% were mixed with sand, gravel and cement to prepare concrete samples that were tested for the mechanical strength and water absorption in intervals of time until complete cure at 28 days. Although the waste failed to show pozzolanic activity, the incorporated concretes attended the required technical specifications.

Abstract: The fluorescent lamp circuit experiment and the power factor improving experiment are both two traditional experimental projects in electrotechnics. It is very important for students to understand basic theory and develop experimental operation ability. Based on studying the basic structure of fluorescent lamp circuit and its working principle, a fluorescent lamp circuit schematics was built by using Multisim interactively. The simulation experiments were done based on the circuit. It could effectively save the time and cost of development. The parallel-capacitor circuit was designed to improve the power factor, and the experiments were done to compare power factor and phase between with and without the parallel capacitor. The study could help students learn and understand well this part, which has good promotional value.

Abstract: As the fluorescent lighting of colleges and universities is extensively used, the necessity of the energy-saving lighting is described and the working principle of fluorescent light is analyzed in this paper. Traditional magnetic ballasts are replaced with electronic ballasts, and radar detection module, light sensor and SCM are used to design intelligent lighting control system, fluorescent lights of different time and environments are precisely set and rationally managed, so as to achieve energy-saving purpose based on the guarantee of colleges and universities' lighting quality.

Abstract: In this paper, the working principle of fluorescent lamps and the necessity to inject mercury into fluorescent tubes have been analyzed. At the same time, the influence of mercury pollution on the environment and humans has also been discussed. It is proposed that it is necessary to establish and improve the construction of recycling system as well as design the sealing frame to completely surround and seal up the broken and the sorting system so as to prevent the escape of mercury vapor. Afterwards, the hot air is leaded into so as to make mercury evaporate and then a mercury collector is used to collect them.

Abstract: Luminescent and non-luminescent nano materials are used today in a variety of lighting applications. One example is the thin layer of densely packed nano alumina between glass and phosphor in fluorescent lamps that serves to increase the efficiency, to improve the maintenance and to reduce the mercury consumption of the lamps. Further, non-luminescent nano materials may be used to form a thin conformal coating around phosphor particles that protects the phosphor particles and improves the efficiency and maintenance of fluorescent lamps. Luminescent nano materials have been the subject of extensive research in the last 15 years. For particle sizes below 20 nm, the optical properties of nano phosphors change, e.g. the exciton energy increases and perhaps even more important, scattering decreases. We have synthesized nano Y2O3:Eu of particle sizes down to 10 nm, derived its optical properties, and investigated its use in Hg-free fluorescent lamps based on the Xe-excimer discharge. The possibility of using nano phosphors, e.g.
semiconducting nano phosphors as CdSe or rare-earth doped phosphors as LaPO4:RE in LEDs, will be discussed.
