Abstract: This study presents the results of a new approach for structural reliability analyses using adaptive kriging, confirmation simulation, and the pilot point method. Its main objective is to develop an efficient and accurate global approximation while controlling the computational cost and accuracy of prediction. The main contribution of research is to reduce computation time and successfully analyze complex problems with accurate results while ensuring excellent predictive quality of the approximation. For an excellent predictability of the kriging approximation, pilot point method and confirmation simulation are proposed. Simply, the predictive quality of the initial kriging approximation is improved by adding adaptive information, and the points are referred to as “pilot points” in areas where the kriging variance is maximized. Outcomes are confirmed with numerical simulations. The purpose is to select the minimum number of design experiments to ensure a good relative accuracy of the predictors with respect to the original models. Numerical examples show the efficiency of the proposed method compared to other structural reliability approaches.

Abstract: The paper presents the main characteristics of heating plant Voždovac, methods of data acquisition and storing them in a database. Special attention is paid to creating queries and reports. The database is comprehensive because in addition to the measured and calculated data it contains all parameters related to the number of heat transfer stations, their capacity, built-in device by which with most heating plants is equipped in our country and abroad, and the state of consumed heat energy. The contribution of the database to efficient operation of heating plant Voždovac and maintenance of its facilities is emphasized. The database operation is illustrated by explaining the mode of certain forms, queries and reports.

Abstract: Journal fluid bearings are widely used in industry due to their static and dynamic behavior and their very low coefficient of friction. The technical requirements to improve the new technologies design are increasingly focused on the indicators of dependability of systems and machines. Then, it is necessary to develop a methodology to study the reliability of bearings in order to improve and to evaluate their design quality. Few works are referenced in literature concerning the estimation of the reliability of fluid journal bearings. This paper deals with a methodology to study the failure probability of a hydrodynamic journal bearing. An analytical approach is proposed to calculate static characteristics in using the Reynolds equation. The commonly methods used in structural reliability such as FORM (First Order Reliability Method), SORM (Second Order Reliability Method) and Monte Carlo are developed to estimate the failure probability. The function of performance bounding two domains (domain of safety and domain of failure) is estimated for several geometrical configurations of a hydrodynamic journal bearing (long journal bearings with the hypotheses of Sommerfeld, Gümbel and Reynolds, and a short journal bearing with the hypothesis of Gümbel).

Abstract: The work presented deals with the experiance of the architectural form related to its function, which is one of permanently open questions in the architectural theory. Various practical situations are considered, in which the architectural form meets its relation towards the function happening within the construction. That range could go from the extremely simplified relation we recognize as in famous phrase „form follows the function“, to the absolute incoherence of the facade from the activities that are performed inside the construction. The influences of these relations on cognitive processes of the observer are considered, as well as the important elements that affect them.

Abstract: In this paper a sensitivity formulation using the Boundary Element Method (BEM) is presentedfor analysis of structural reliability problems. The sensitivity formulation is based on implicit differentiation method where the first and second order derivatives of the random variables are obtained directly by differentiation of the discretised boundary integral equation. The structural reliability is assessed using the Monte Carlo Method and FORM with BEM sensitivity parameters. A benchmark example is presented to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the BEM for both Monte Carlo and Sensitivity based FORM approaches.

Abstract: While “Form follows function” is a familiar tenet of 20th century architecture, originally expressed by the Bauhaus School of Design and popularized in America by Frank Lloyd Wright, today’s architectural form usually starts from pursuit of design concepts, a process of an intuitive understanding of design problems solving. The process of making concepts is often associated with the starting point of a long journey, where designers keep improving on and adding details on the concepts until concepts evolve to be innovative and operable. In a conceptual planning with a specific context, the form of the whole design, including layout, architecture and landscape, comes into being naturally according to the expression of concept.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper was to verify the way in which CAD systems and their tools for visual surfaces analysis interact with morphological knowledge in the determination of continuity in product design procession. Geometrical knowledge is necessary but not enough for working with this attribute of form in everyday objects, where cultural factors are involved. Geometry establishes a progressive range of surface continuity that involves the concepts of position, tangency and curvature. In product design different degrees of continuity that not necessarily follow this idea of increment. What is understood as discontinuous in products in most cases is geometrically continuous.

Abstract: In the sports architectural form creation, structure technology plays an important role, it is the ideal form of guarantee, elements and form, structure and technology as a method of design, is the factor most architects consider first in sports in architectural creation. Technology of building structure technology as the field of material production, the aesthetic features of its shape becomes the main expression of sports architecture aesthetics, aesthetic psychological effects caused by the people. Especially in large span structure system because of its giant scale and exaggerated shapes, people will lose their normal in the presence of mental judgment scale, often by its magnificent momentum of admiration, moved by the building architectural image and space atmosphere. In the sports building design, construction technical support on architectural forms and form depends on the structure technology is beyond doubt, shaping the spatial image mainly depends on the correct expression of shape.
