Abstract: Composite materials based on bio-derived furan resin and natural fiber as reinforcing elements were studied. The purpose of this research is to improve the mechanical properties of this composite material by focusing on the natural fiber treatment methods. Unidirectional flax fabric was pretreated by alkaline treatment, silane coupling treatment, and the combination between alkaline and silane treatment before impregnating with furan resin. Three-point bending test, SEM observation, and ATR-IR analysis were carried out to evaluate the effects of treatment methods on the composite samples. Results reveal that the flexural strength of the composite was increased to 215MPa, 232MPa, 247MPa for alkaline, silane, and alkaline-silane treated composites respectively while the flexural strength of the untreated composite sample is 200MPa. SEM images show the effects of alkaline treatment on a single flax fiber at different treatment durations. The coupling of silane on the surface of flax fiber was confirmed by ATR-IR.

Abstract: Natural graphite and carbonaceous materials are the most promising materials as the anode for lithium ion batteries. Carbon coating on natural graphite can inhibit the insertion of lithium complex into graphite and reduce its irreversibility. This study verifies that furan resin can be used as a carbon-coating material to enhance the electrochemistry of the charging and discharging cycles. Furan resin changes into amorphous carbon after heat treatment at 1100°C. It is determined that the 40 wt.% furan resin/natural graphite combination material clearly improves the electrochemical properties by electrical cycling tests. The surface properties have been investigated by Raman spectroscopy profiles and the bulk analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements.

Abstract: On the basis of the CT mountings’ technology characteristics produced by Furan resin self-hardening sand, and aiming at the easy appearing defects in the progresses, the reasonable solution had proposed. Practice has proved that, through the scientific selection of raw and auxiliary materials, controlling the molding the environment conditions and strict management of key processes, can improve product quality to meet customer needs.
