Abstract: This contribution presents a new methodology and a new indeterminate integral variable of displacement field using trigonometric deformation in conjunction with gradient elasticity theory. The aim, for the first time, is to explore the thermal buckling behavior of functionally graded (FG) nanobeam thus elastic gradient theory takes into account the size effect on the critical thermal buckling load of FG nanobeams. Secondly, the impact of various factors, such as nonlocal coefficient, porosity parameter, material index, thermal loading type, and aspect ratio on the critical thermal buckling load of FG nanobeams. The material characteristics are considered to vary in thickness as the power law varies and the pore network is assumed to be empty or filled with low-pressure air.

Abstract: The paper deals with crack bridging modelling in Bioglass® based scaffolds due the presence of a special polymer coating. This includes a careful identification of bridging mechanism by polymer ligaments, selection of a suitable bridging model and its implementation into the gradient elasticity model of crack.

Abstract: In this paper two different nonlinear elasticity theories that account for (a) geometric nonlinearityand (b) microstructure-dependent size effects are revisited to establish the connection betweenthe two theories. The first theory is based on modified couple stress theory of Yang et al. [1]and the second one is based on Srinivasa–Reddy gradient elasticity theory [2]. The modified couplestress theory includes a material length scale parameter that can capture the size effect in a material.The gradient elasticity theory was developed for finitely deforming hyperelastic cosserat continuum,and it is a generalization of small deformation couple stress theories. The Srinivasa–Reddy theorycontains, as a special case, the first one. These two theories are used to derive the governing equationsof beams and plates. In addition, a discrete peridynamics idea as an alternative to the conventionalperidynamics is also presented.
