Abstract: The successful optimization process of machining parameters is significantly important to the green manufacturing industries. However, the optimization process of machining problem is difficult to solve using conventional optimization techniques. Hence, the computational approach methodology such as Harmony Search (HS) is considered as an alternative way for optimization process in manufacturing industries. This paper discusses the overview of Harmony Search (HS) to optimize the machining parameters in machining process. Example of previous works that applied HS algorithm in machining optimization problems are also discussed.

Abstract: In recent days of competitive world industries are getting upward pressure to keep environment green to go for sustainable manufacturing with green manufacturing. Sustainable methods are expected to provide Triple Bottom Line benefits. To improve the performance of environmental conditions, sustainability of environmental desires to be reviewed. Multi grade fuzzy approach is used to get an effectual calculation. Environmental Sustainability Index (ESI) will be calculated and examined for enhancement. An automobile manufacturing industry is being exemplified for this study. The final calculated value of ESI of the manufacturing industry is 6.1 and is in the accepted level of 6 to 8, which shows the industry is Strongly Environmental Sustainable for improving the image of company and production efficiency.

Abstract: Waste that was generated by human activities needed to be treated properly in order to reduce harmful to environment. At present, landfill is the most common treatment method of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) all over the world, due to it’s lowest net treatment cost when comparing with the other methods, i.e. thermal treatment and composting. However, it is quite clear that the landfill method is not an ultimate and sustainable way for the MSW treatment. Indeed, it works in such a way that the waste would be transferred into land and waiting for final disposal process in the future, causing a large land usage and long-term treatment. But still, there are a lot of valuable materials that needs to be reclaimed inside the dump waste. Green manufacturing of Eco-Materials from Landfill Dump Site by urban mining has been developed. The pilot reclaiming landfill has a daily capacity of 50 Tons, by using land excavation and passing through trommel screen and magnetic separation. The reclaim materials consist of non-degradable plastic, metal, glass and soil. Metal and glass have been used for recycling purposed. The non-degradable plastic has a proportion around 35% of reclaim materials in the form of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) and shall be used for green and clean energy to produce electricity by using gasification technology. This research described the green manufacturing process of urban mining to get the valuable eco-materials. The results shown that the new and eco-materials from landfill dump site can be used as clean and green energy that helps reduce the global warming effects and impact to environment.

Abstract: The objective of this research paper is to demonstrate the application of hybrid knowledge-based system, gauging absences of pre-requisites (GAP), and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approaches for selecting the improvement programs for Collaborative Green Manufacturing Management (CGMM) system. In this research, a generic knowledge-based system is developed to measure the level of CGMM adoption in automotive manufacturers compared to the ideal system. Using the GAP and AHP tools, the key green manufacturing improvement programs can be prioritized and demonstrated with an illustrative example.

Abstract: Today, manufacturing products in a sustainable way is increasingly becoming essential in the eyes of investors, authorities and customers. Failure leads to fines, penalties, and customers choosing to go to the competition. Success, on the other hand, can save money, helps build a reputation, attracts investment, spurs innovation, secures loyal customers and brings in repeat business. Taking into account the sustainable manufacturing is not just longer a caprice for the business.During the end of the twentieth century and into the twenty-first century two types of manufacturing systems that emphasize waste minimization have emerged: Lean and Green manufacturing. Despite the importance of Green manufacturing to the environmental problem, many companies are still skeptical about the business benefits. In the same time, however, a good many of them see the business benefits of Lean manufacturing. Several research efforts summarized in the literature review indicate how both systems share many of the same best practices to reduce their respective wastes. Yet, these two systems tend to operate independently.The aim of this research is to explore and to determine how the Lean manufacturing can include Green manufacturing system components in their overall strategy to reduce waste.

Abstract: Green manufacturing has become a major trend in the 21st century manufacturing industry. Manufacturing is the main source of resource consumption and environmental pollution. Developed countries have researched green manufacturing for many years. In this paper, the application situation of green manufacturing in China automobile industry was studied. First, the application situation of green manufacturing in China auto industry was described from three aspects: green design, green processing and remanufacturing technology. Finally, the automobile industry development strategies of green manufacturing were discussed.
