Abstract: Green space system within a built-up area is very important to provide an ecological and livable environment. The green patches originally locate in rural-urban fringes is of contribution to the system, with the dynamics of patches controlled by urban planning. In this study, based on the analysis of the features about green patches in fringe in their types, dynamics, and potentials, it is argued that the green patches in fringe, always under a dynamic status, can be classified to three types with dissimilar ecological attributes and function; and they have much more potentials to improve the green space system of an extended built-up area. It is also suggested to constitute a set of planning mechanics to optimize the urban green space system aiming to effectively use these green patches. After some planning principles proposed, a supplemental planning method has been put forward, so as to provide an applied planning tool.

Abstract: The aim of the paper is to investigate the importance of landscape design in the planning and designing of a residential property in Klang Valley. It has been proven that proper landscape planning and design with the sustainable concept and approach help to create conducive and responsive environment of residential properties. The paper employed quantitative approaches which includes i) a questionnaire survey; and ii) an observation. This empirical study is based on the findings of case studies conducted on several residential areas in Klang Valley. The findings show that the residents have very clear ideas both on how much green space is really important in residential areas in order to create a sustainable residential environment. Despite the absence of public actions in terms of providing information, encouraging participations in the survey and promoting awareness by those interviewed have shown considerable interest in promoting landscape design to be applied in real estate development. The perceptions of the quality and quantity of landscape designs in residential areas and how landscape design can influence the values of real estate developments especially in Klang Valley can be further researched for future study.

Abstract: The nonlinear competition model simulates different cases and predicts the future competition between green space and construction land along time changes. The research indicates if the current development of construction land and green space continues, the green space is likely to decrease in the 10 years. In order to maintain an improving ecological environment, the rate of increasing construction land should be decreased by 50% and that of increasing green space should remain 0.47% annually. This is a positive development model which indicates a scientific significance of using the nonlinear competition model for the inner mechanism of simulating the dynamics of green space and reasonable arrangement of various land uses.

Abstract: Urban greenway system is one of the important parts in urban ecological environment construction and also a significant part of ecological human habitat environment. In the background of overall regional development, besides paying attention to district industry economy, at present we should also think over how to protect and rationally use local natural eco-environment and historical and cultural resources along with endowing the greenway with cultural connotations. This paper takes the cultural perspective of overall plan of regional development and thus provides the cultural strategies of Tianjins urban greenway planning from four aspects, namely, its capability of fusing cultural resources, bearing capability of its green space, the canals cultural charm and prospect of its tourism resources, and offers theories for the construction of Tianjins urban greenway.

Abstract: Large-scale greenway planning and construction have been developing for more than 30 years in Europe and the United States. But in China,it is a new topic which has just been noted for few years. With the the development of the research and practice, many countries in the world have been aware of that the greenway planning and construction is a significant measure for the prosperity of the country. This article reviews the origin of the greenway planning, discuss the definition, phase classification, planning features and its significance. The auther hopes it can contribute to the theoretical innovation and practice of greenway planning in China.

Abstract: Water scenery, nowadays, is one of the most important elements for creation of natural ecological surroundings of modern residential quarters. Introducing water scenery into residential quarters has become the most fashionable style for designing residential surroundings. A brief analysis of present water scenery design in this paper makes some methods and proposals for dealing with some incompetent problems existing in between the requirements of residents and shortages of water scenery design at the present time.

Abstract: Zhengzhou is the important traffic and communications center. With the rapid development of economic and increase in population, but the speed of construction on urban disaster prevention and reduction is far behind the process of urban economy. Once the earthquake disaster was happened, the consequences was serious. This paper investigates the construction of disaster-prevention green space in old districts of Zhengzhou city, analyzes the problems in the capacity of refuge and planning layout of disaster-prevention green space, and presents to enhance awareness of prevention, perfect green space system of disaster-prevention, expand the capacity in green space of disaster-prevention and increase constantly input in scientific research.

Abstract: This paper extracted green space distribution information from multi-temporal LANDSAT multi-spectral remote sensing images to analyze the evolution of Nanjing’s green space between 1988 and 2007. The findings suggest that the current distribution of green space is not balanced and that the total area of green space has decreased over time. The trend towards fragmentation is obvious in the disproportionately large decline in medium-sized green spaces. Mountain forest and other large green spaces, however, have been better protected. Before 1998, the fragmentation was most apparent in the green spaces of the city’s inner circle. After 1998, the green space in the city’s middle circle began to suffer from the effects of severe human interference. After 2003, the outer circle of green space began to fragment and diminish as a result of urbanization, and the original ecological corridor surrounding the city collapsed.
