Abstract: Surface integrity of workpiece, especially residual stress, has the significant effects on the precision, the reliability and the fatigue life of the mechanical products. Since the most of final surface integrity of workpiece depends on the grinding process in engineering, this paper analyzed the ground surface residual stress through simulation and experiment. Based on the finite element model, the coupling of thermal mechanical field of plane grinding was simulated. The effects of grinding parameters on residual stress were studied compared to the experiment results. In addition, some measures for reducing the residual tensile stress of workpiece surface in the grinding process were put forwarded.

Abstract: The surface residual stress and integrity of workpiece have significant effects on the precision, the reliability and the fatigue life of the mechanical products. Since the most final surface integrity of workpiece depends on the grinding process mainly in engineering, this paper analyzed the surface residual stress of ground surface through the simulation works. Based on the finite element model and the thermal mechanical coupling field of the surface grinding for 45 steel was simulated and analyzed. The distribution of the residual stress and the effects of grinding parameters on residual stress were discussed. In addition, the measures for improving the residual stress in ground surface were put forward.

Abstract: In previous study, the quantitative measurement method of contact stiffness of the joint considering real contact area is developed by experimental approach. However, the measurement of contact stiffness needs special device and skillful measuring technique. Therefore, in this paper, simplified calculation method with material properties and profile data of surface roughness obtained by profilometer is considered. As a result, real contact area, contact stiffness and contact spring stiffness calculated from specific wavelength of rough surface are near agreement with experimental value. Hence, it is revealed that there is dominant configuration in surface roughness.

Abstract: In this study, the influences of carbides and alloy additives on ground surface characteristics of several high Chromium (Cr) steels and abrasive grains of working surface were discussed. In the grinding using metal bonded CBN wheel, almost constant values in ground surface roughness and high grinding ratio were shown. 5% Cr steel with Vanadium, 8% Cr steel and 10% Cr steel showed a rougher surface than Cr steels with 3%, 4% and 5% due to the carbide inclusion. The grinding ratio of 5%Cr steel could be raised considerably by adding sulfur to it.

Abstract: Surface microgrinding of the nanostructured WC/12Co coatings have been undertaken with diamond wheels under various conditions. Nondestructive and destructive approaches were utilized to assess damage in ground nanostructured coatings. Different surface and subsurface configurations were observed by scanning electron microscopy. This paper investigates the effects of microgrinding conditions on damage formation in the surface and subsurface layers of the ground nanostructured WC/12Co coatings. And the material-removal mechanism has been discussed.
