Abstract: The article describes the problem of reasonable choice of parameters of main motion drive of modern multi-purpose machine tools. Authors propose a multi-purpose methodological model for reasonable estimation of operational capabilities of motorized spindles and efficiency of equipment usage for performing of required technological operations. Dependencies are provided considering influence of HSK connection on operational parameters of drives.

Abstract: The article describes main trends in cutting performance enhancement: traditional force cutting and high-speed machining. Results of analysis of products by world's leading manufacturers of motorized spindles are provided, and conclusion is made that the most used standard for connection between spindle and toolholder in drilling, milling and boring machines is HSK. Limitations of operational features of motorized spindles by load capacity of HSK connection and efficiency of tool usage are shown.

Abstract: The coupling characteristic of the tool-holder/spindle interface in high speed NC machine has significant influence on machine tool accuracy and process stability. With the example of HSK-E63, based on nonlinear finite element method (FEM), the coupling characteristic of the tool-holder/spindle interface under high rotational speed was investigated, the influence of interference, clamping force and rotational speed on the contact stress and the sectional area of clearance were discussed in detail. The results can be used as theoretical consideration to design and optimize the high speed tool-holder/spindle interface.

Abstract: The manufacture and assembly accuracy of the HSK taper inspection gauge directly influences the measurement precision. Take the large taper measuring head of the HSK-A63 taper inspection gauge as the research object, analyzed the measurement errors caused by its mounting position deviations, obtained corresponding formulas. Based on the structure of the inspection gauge and the moderate accuracy required by machinery manufacture and mechanical assembly, assigned value for each parameter, and the specific measurement errors were calculated. Guiding suggestions for the manufacture and assembly of the HSK taper inspection gauge were proposed.

Abstract: The principle of the HSK shrink toolholder is expanding with heat and contracting with cold. The heat performance of HSK is analyzed. Firstly, the induction heating performance is studied by using electromagnetism-thermal-structure FEA in ANSYS software and experiment, the optimal temperature of HSK shrink toolholder is got. Secondly, thermal fatigue and calculation of the fatigue life is analyzed by using thermal-stress in ANSYS software and Coffin-Manson formula. The loads applied on the FEA model are temperature during the cycle of heating and cooling.
