Abstract: The sustainability and performance of highway infrastructure are vital issues in the current era of rapid urbanization and civilization. The stability of highway embankments needs spatial precaution to maintain good traffic flow and serviceability performance. The lateral sliding and crack formation on the pavement appear due to a lack of confinement against embankments. Conventional retaining structures like gravity walls and reinforced cement concrete retaining walls absorb plastic strains and dissipate in the form of cracks, leading to failure of the structure. Flexibility needs to be introduced in the structure to maintain its strength and shape during the serviceable period. Less explored geocell-retained structures are a good option to maintain flexibility and stress rearrangement in different layers along the structure's height. This research aims to evaluate the structural efficiency and sustainability of the geocell-retained highway embankments as an alternative approach to conventional rigid retaining walls. In the current study, numerical analysis was performed using the Abaqus 2017 version on the geocell retained wall by considering three different shapes (square, hexagonal, and honeycomb) of geocell fiber with aggregates as infill material. Highway cyclic loading (0.5 Hz) and seismic loading (7.5M Kobe earthquake-0.05 Hz) are analyzed respectively. The horizontal stress, displacement, and crest settlement are considered basic parameters to judge geocell efficiency over conventional retaining structures. Shapes like square geocells perform well compared to hexagonal and honeycomb shapes due to more contact area and uniform all-around lateral confinement against instability. This study found that square-shaped geocells provide superior confinement and stability, minimizing crest settlement (1.5 mm under static loading and 0.5 mm under seismic loading) and enabling efficient stress distribution. The findings suggest that geocell-reinforced systems, especially with square cells, offer a much more cost-effective and flexible solution for enhancing the durability and performance of the highway embankments.

Abstract: Roads with cement concrete covers have a long tradition in the Czech Republic. They are used mainly on highway sections of roads with higher traffic intensity. The subject of this article is a brief description of communications with cement concrete cover. Furthermore, the determination of the expected time cycles of their maintenance and costs in the time axis of life from the perspective of Construction 4.0 and facility management. The article is based on TP 92 Design of maintenance and repairs of pavements with cement concrete cover [6]. The output is an interface in an Excel spreadsheet both in the current financial statement and in graphical form, which can serve as a basis for planning future repairs, including securing financial resources.

Abstract: The features of the use of waste foundry sand to obtain secondary products are presented. The properties of the surface of mineral particles of waste molding sand are described. It is shown that on the surface of the particles there is a porous layer capable of increasing the adhesion forces of mineral particles with bitumen in the production of asphalt concrete. It has been established that the modified surface of the waste foundry sand contains up to 40% carbon, which provides an increase in the adhesion force between the mineral particles of the waste foundry sand and bitumen. It has been experimentally proven that the use of waste foundry sand in the composition of asphalt concrete can improve its physical and mechanical properties.

Abstract: At present, the introduction of only organic or inorganic binder is not always sufficient for the practical application of stabilized soils. The research investigated the effect of the stabilizing additives Chimston, Baustab and Dorstab on changing a number of parameters over time, such as: average density, water saturation, ultimate compression and tensile strength, and frost resistance. All the researched parameters were determined at intermediate and target age — 7, 14 and 28 days respectively. Tests to assess the effectiveness of various stabilizing additives in strengthening loamy soil have shown the feasibility of using Baustab and Chimston-3 additives (in the dosage of 2%). Introduction of additives into the soil composition allowed obtaining soil with high strength characteristics and higher frost resistance as compared to the control composition. Composition No.2 has the compressive strength of 5.1 MPa and the tensile strength of 1.6 MPa. Composition No.7 has the limit of compression strength of 5.4 MPa, and the limit of tensile strength of 1.27 MPa. Thus, both compositions have the strength grade M40. Such soil will be subject to minimal subsidence and loss of strength.

Abstract: In order to improve the accuracy of hydrologic calculation of highway bridge crossing tributary, two calculation methods were listed in this paper. Based on the analysis and comparison of the hydrologic calculation of bridge design flood flow and water level at certain frequency crossing tributaries in the main river system, the hydrologic analysis of bridge is introduced. The important applications of hydrologic analysis of highway bridge community along river that need to be solved are discussed.

Abstract: With the development of our economy, highway becoming more and more important for our lives. While the construction of the highway will cause many geo-hazards such as landslide, Collapse, Debris Flow and loess collapse etc. , based on the highway of S208, the types and character were analyzed in The paper, then their hazards were evaluated, it can be supplied a necessary basement for letter prediction and evaluation and comprehensive zoning evaluation.

Abstract: The Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu expressway is the first highway which is built by using World Bank loan in china. With the influence of service life increasing and traffic growing, the diseases appear such as rut, crack and poor flatness, so the use performance of the highway obviously degrades. Pavement overhaul effectively reduces the appearing of pavement diseases and prolongs the service life of the road. This paper conducts a detailed research on the engineering management and construction quality control of the Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu expressway overhaul which has strong reference significance on highway overhaul.

Abstract: The present article describes the use of computational models to perform quantitative assessment of the environmental effects over the design period to ensure reliable operation of transport facilities, built with traditional materials. The peculiarities of forming moisture accumulation in road pavement materials and subgrade are given, as well as the climatic factors, which have an important role in change of the material properties of pavement.

Abstract: An analysis based on questionnaire was conducted to study the technology of highway subgrade disaster prevention and maintenance. A serial of questions related to the subgrade maintenance management, maintenance technique, and existing problems were consulted with 39 experts from local highway administrations, highway management and maintenance centers, highway construction Co. Ltd, road maintenance companies in Guangdong Province. The investigation and analysis results provide a valuable scientific reference for further formulating “the technical specification of the highway subgrade maintenance”.
