Abstract: To overcome the limitations of the independent stacked hybrid actuator with multiple sensors, a new hybrid linear actuator combines the advantages of both technologies: piezo actuator for extremely high accuracy and motorized stage for long travel ranges. A hybrid linear actuator prototype has been developed for testing in our satellite tracking antenna pointing control system. For the maximum absolute positioning accuracy, host positioning controller depends only on one common position sensor for both the coarse and fine positioning at the same time. Synchronization control scheme shows promising results for extremely small steps, high repeatability and good linearity over long travel ranges.

Abstract: This study aims to enhance the bacteria’s ability to degrade phenol by exploring the phenol-degrading capability of hybrid strains and immobilized cells. Two phenol-degradation strains named as A1 and A2 were isolated respectively. The StrainA1 was identified as Burkholderia, while strain A2 was found to be Bacillus cereuswere. In addition, conditions including inoculum strains , pH value, temperature and dissolved oxygen were tested. . It was shown that: (1)Hybrid strains ( mixed A1 with A2) was better than single strain(A1 or A2) in degrading phenol because of the Synergistic effect. It can completely degraded phenol at the concentration of 300mg/ L, 500mg / L, 700mg / L within 12h, 24h, 48h respectively. (2) The optimum environmental conditions of phenol degradation for hybrid strains culture is 35°C, pH is 7.0, the inoculum strains is 10%. (3) It is beneficial to the degradation of phenol, when the speed of the shaker was improved. (4) Phenol-degradation rate and the tolerance of high concentration of phenol were significantly improved when the A1 and A2 were mixed immoblized.

Abstract: In India, more than 22% of milk, fruits and vegetables produced in the villages are spoiled due to lack of preservation facilities. Refrigerated cold storages at local level can be one of the methods to avoid this spoilage. Electrical operated conventional refrigeration is not viable due to the non-availability of electrical power as well as the issues in power transmission. In this paper, the feasibility study of hybrid energy powered cooling system to satisfy the cooling needs of remote seashore villages in southern part of India, where the renewable energy sources are abundantly available has been discussed. A study has been conducted on the possible of energy sources in the above said region and a LiBr-Water absorption cooling system operating with various combinations of available energy sources has been analysed using the Matlab software. Suitable hybrid energy systems with maximum overall COP have been identified and the economic analysis for such systems is also presented.

Abstract: The fibers from naturally available resources are considered to have potential alternate reinforcing agent in polymer matrix composite materials due to their properties such as high strength, stiffness, degradable in nature and renewable in nature. In this study a lightweight, low cost and environment friendly hybrid composites are prepared by using sisal-jute-glass fibers as the reinforcement materials. There are three types of composites such as sisal/glass fiber reinforced polymer (SGFRP) composites, jute/glass fiber reinforced polymer (JGFRP) composites and sisal/jute/glass fiber reinforced polymer (SJGFRP) composites are prepared by hand lay-up process and underwent to charpy impact test in order to study their impact properties. Post impact induced damage, material failure mechanism, matrix cracking, fiber breakage and pullout was observed by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. The results showed that the energy absorption and load carrying capacity of JGFRP composites are better and able to withstand higher loads than SGFRP composites and SJGFRP composites. It is further observed from the experiment, the inclusion of sisal and jute fibers with glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites has gained good impact properties. It is suggested that these light weight sisal and jute fibers have been used as an alternative reinforcing material to synthetic fiber for medium load applications.

Abstract: The present paper, evaluates the effect of surface roughness on the performance characteristics of capillary compensated 3-lobe symmetric hole entry hybrid journal bearing. The effect of surface roughness patterns viz; transverse, isotropic, longitudinal and smooth, on bearing performance is presented for different values of offset factor. A modified form of Reynold’s equation in conjunction with restrictor flow equation is solved by using Galerkin’s technique of FEM. The numerically simulated results of the study indicate that the surface roughness orientation patterns affect the performance of 3-lobe hybrid journal bearing system significantly. Further, it is noticed that the longitudinal roughness pattern provides enhanced value of rotor dynamic coefficient. To have an improved dynamic performance, a judicious selection of offset factor and surface roughness pattern parameter is essential.

Abstract: The short-time dwell time of BRT is hard to predict. Considering impacts of complex traffic environment, we can predict the value more effectively by using a new hybrid method, which is mixed with ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average Model), predicting the self-relevant linear part and SVM, predicting residual nonlinear part, than the single ARIMA model and SVM model. The dwell times of BRT line1in Chang Zhou have proved this thesis.

Abstract: This work aims to obtain hybrid from nanoparticles of Fe3O4 modified surface with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) for their use in the immobilization of glucose oxidase (GOX). The obtained material was characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, sedimentation test and magnetic separation. Based on the obtained results it showed that the surface modification with APTES was successfully achieved and that the APTES did not changed the magnetic characteristic neither the structure of Fe3O4, indicating that the hybrid material obtained is promising for immobilization of GOX.

Abstract: Two kinds of proton exchange membranes (PEMs) containing POSS are designed and prepared, one is sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK)/bisphenol S diglycidyl ether (DEBS)/POSS hybrids with the semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) structure and the other is sulfonated polyimides (SPI)/POSS hybrids with cross-link structure. IPNs should be more contributed to improve the proton conductivities of PEMs than cross-link structure.

Abstract: In this paper, a series of fluoro-silicone -containing acrylate emulsion (FSiAE) have been prepared through pre-emulsified semi-continuous seed emulsion method with OP-10, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the emulsifier, ammonium persulfate (APS) as the initiator, methyl methacrylate (MMA) and butyl acrylate (BA) as the main monomers, 2,2,3,4,4,4-hexafluorobutyl methacrylate (G02) and methacryloxy propyl trimethoxyl silane (KH-570) as the functional monomers, The effect of the content of fluoro-silicone -containing monomer on the properties of acrylate emulsion and their films, such as the contact angle, water absorption, viscosity and hardness was investigated. The results show that functional monomers had effectively copolymerized with acrylic monomers, and the introduction of fluoro-silicone into the polyacrylate emulsion system did make the viscosity of the emulsion increased, the water absorption and the surface energy of the film decreased.

Abstract: Crashworthiness of fiber reinforced polymer composites is classified based on how they deform, fail and dissipate the energy in a controllable manner. Fuselage shapes were manufactured from hybrid glass/epoxy and cotton/epoxy layers. The effects of the test speed and fiber orientation were investigated. The results showed that significant effects of cotton fiber/epoxy layers on the crushing force efficiency of tested fuselage systems. On the other hand, the test speed did not show any significant effects whereas; the fiber orientation did have a significant effect.
