Abstract: An innovative new automatic approach for image retrieval is proposed to make duplex printing paper fragments retrieval, a simple mathematical model is built and the corresponding algorithm is designed. By extracting image information and utilizing the property that the front and the back sides can affect each other, if the matching process cannot continue, change to the other side to match continually. The results show that the arrangement that alternates between both sides can greatly improve the coherence and reduce the number of manual intervention.

Abstract: According to the changes of grayscale or colour in imaging logging data, the principle of fracture automatically segmentation which is in control of threshold and boundary is adopted, combing threshold segmentation principle with shapes of vertical fracture , we can segment and extract fracture images accurately. This method is applied to identification of vertical fracture in logging image which takes thin interacted layer horizontal bedding as background.

Abstract: The measurement of surface roughness of the machined Fiber Reinforced Plastics is very important to assess the quality of a composite, which is normally carried out using taly-surf stylus instruments. This method of measuring is accepted widely by all the researchers. But, this process is not suitable for high volume applications as it is time consuming and cumbersome. With rising demand of industrial automation in manufacturing process, image processing technique plays an important role in inspection and process monitoring. In this paper, a new parameter for determining surface roughness of machined fiber reinforced specimens was proposed using image processing technique. The experimental result indicates that the surface roughness of machined composites could be predicted with a reasonable accuracy using image processing technique.

Abstract: For the identification complexity of rock microstructure, based on numerical analysis of rock section images, an automatic rock texture classification method and identification system is proposed in this paper. Digital grey image processing of rock thin section is used for features extraction, the features are then as inputs to the neural network model, the model output is the rock microstructure classification. 100 pieces of rock section images from Sulige region in Changqing Oilfield are used for the experiment; the whole dataset is randomly divided into 70 images for training datasets, 15 images for validation datasets and 15 images for testing datasets. It is shown that the correct classification rate for automatic identification of rock microstructure is about 93.3%. Therefore, the proposed method for solving geological problem is effective and can get a good identification performance for rock microstructure classification quickly and accurately.

Abstract: On the foundation of analyzing in an all-round way to the current application situations and development trends with image acquisition and treatment technology on domestic and international, the paper designed one system that aim at the problems including high-speed rate of analog-to-digital conversion, heavy amount data and complicated arithmetic and so on that existing in high-speed image acquisition board and realize the high-speed acquisition and processing of image. The key part of the system is DSP and programmable arrays device FPGA, The main circuit including the standard video signal separation circuit, A/D converter circuit, phase locking multiple frequency circuits and the DSP, such as power supply circuit, etc. The circuit is simple, dependability, and have certain common ability.

Abstract: Research using image processing techniques to identify new burning point of industrial tube furnace.First, get the flame image through the design system, and then using the symmetric differencing to obtain each furnace burning point position, and finally the use of Clustering Algorithm to identify the new burning point. Through the experimental simulation show that this algorithm can avoid the complex background interference in the furnace, accurate and effective identify the new burning point.

Abstract: This study presented a novel non-contact optical measuing method for grape stem diameter in fields. The main algorithm contained 3 steps: saperation of the stem from background, determination of the stem segment, and the computation of stem diameter. The experiments conducted in field not only validated the effectiveness, but also proved the high accuracy of the optical measuring system. And our further experimental results showed that the continuous measurement of grape stem diameter can provide periodic data for the analysis of physiological disorders in grapes.

Abstract: Using the method of image processing, some palm images are collected by scanner. Method of these images' key points' location and segmentation is researched. After proper preprocessing, images of palm's clear borderline can be acquired. A method of calculating distance derivative is used to mark the key points. Through experiments, it can be seen that the marking effect is good. The key points' marking method has positive significance to the development of automatic diagnostician.

Abstract: In this paper, a new yarn appearance measurement system based on machine vision is introduced. The yarn images are continuously captured by image acquisition system. To extract the main body of the yarn accurately, the yarn images are processed sequentially with threshold segmentation and morphological opening operation. Then the coefficient of variation (CV value) of diameter is calculated to characterize the yarn evenness. The measurement process achieves result (CV value) which can be compared with USTER evenness tester by image processing techniques. By comparing different methods which use different algorithms, a suitable method is chosen to be used in this new measurement system. Then a more accurate, more efficient and faster measurement system will meet requirements in the future.
