Abstract: The paper considers the dynamic deformation features of constructional materials with nonlinear stress-strain dependence. For the one-dimensional shock waves with nonzero curvature arising in constructions under dynamic loading the propagation regularities are studied on the basis of the matched asymptotic expansions method. In the nonstationary problem with the longitudinal spherical shock wave the relations for simultaneous consideration of dynamic properties in the outer and inner problem of the perturbation method are obtained. The solution in the front-line area is constructed on the basis of the evolution equation different from ones for a plane longitudinal wave. The need for a solving of an additional ODE system for matching outer and inner expansions is shown. It is obtained that the outer solution asymptotics in the spherically symmetric problem contains waves reflected from the leading front in contrast to the solution behavior behind the front of the plane shock wave.

Abstract: In this study, the effect of strain rate on the strength and the absorbed energy of polylactic acid resin foam (PLA-foam), which is generally known as one of carbon-neutral and environmentally-friendly polymers, were examined by a series of compression tests at various strain rates from 0.001 to 750 s-1. For the measurements of the impact load and the displacement of specimen, a special load cell and a high-speed video camera were used, respectively. The flow stress of the PLA-foam strongly depends upon not only strain rate but also density of specimens. Thus, a new technique to eliminate the effect of the difference in the specimen density was proposed and successfully applied. It was also found that the strain-rate dependency of PLA-foam can be expressed by a simple power law.

Abstract: In this paper, the effects of rolling and annealing on the high speed impact deformation behavior of the Mg-3%Li-1%Ce alloy were investigated by using the Hopkinson compressive bar. The results showed that the microstructures of the as-rolled alloy consisted mainly of deformed grains, with some secondary Mg12Ce particles in grain interior or on grain boundary. After annealing at 350 °C for one hour, static recrystallization happened and grains were significantly refined. For the annealed alloy, the impact stress-strain behavior is non-sensitive to strain rate in the strain rate range of 1000~1750 s-1. Under the strain rate of 2250 s-1, the dynamic behavior demonstrated negative strain rate effect. The occurrence of cracking was supposed to be the main reason for the strain rate softening effect.
