Abstract: There are results of studying the parameters of the indenter contact interaction with the surface when processing cylindrical parts made of 45 steel of different hardness by surface plastic deformation (SPD) methods with single-indenter elastic tools (diamond burnishing, ball burnishing). There were considered such characteristics as the resistance force when the indenter starts and in the steady state of SDP, the range of force fluctuations during processing, friction factor when the indenter starts and in the steady state, as well as some derivative coefficients. Adequate physical-statistical models for the quantitative estimation of the contact interaction parameters from SPD processing factors are obtained.

Abstract: The considered theoretical analysis of the roughness parameters formation of the rolling face of the pinch pass mills, when they are indented with shot, allows to obtain more adequate and convenient theoretical results for use in practice. The formation of a rough layer on the rolling working surface of the pinch pass mill is determined by the impact and penetration of the shots into its surface. When this occurs, the elastic and plastic deformation of the roll materials and shot with the dimple formation and the displacement of a portion of the deformed roll material on the edges of this dimple takes place. The obtained results allow using the mathematical dependencies to control purposefully the process of shot blasting and correct it when texturing the working rolling faces of the pinch pass mills.

Abstract: The massive body impact on a uniformly stretched pivotally supported rectangular plate on an elastic Winkler base and on an endless plate lying on the surface of an ideal incompressible fluid is investigated. The asymptotic behavior of the Green influence function is used. The elastoplastic impact solution is in good agreement with numerical calculations and experimental data. The results to study the material properties are used when an indenter impacts ice.

Abstract: In this work, the influence of a rigid cylindrical inclusion on the elastic field in a transparent soft material is studied by an embedded-grating technique. The same experimental procedure was implemented on two specimens, a homogeneous bulk soft material and the same material containing a rigid cylindrical inhomogeneity. Under the indentation of a rigid wedge, two kinds of deformation sectors underneath the contacting boundary are observed from experimental results. Furthermore, the shape of the deformation sectors is horizontally expanded due to the inclusion. A local fluctuation of contact stresses between the soft matrix and rigid inclusion are discussed.

Abstract: This paper analyses the influence of indenter’s vertex angle on the ‘trap’ effect of the semi-fixed abrasive plate (SAP) with discrete element method. The indenters of different degree vertex angle are generated by discrete element method, then the indenter is applied processing velocity, which let the indenter press into the SAP, finally three curves of normal force and displacement are gained. From the curves, the normal force of the indenters doesn’t increase quickly and stay in stable in the beginning, because the SAP is full of pore, which let the indenter easily press into the SAP. Through the above indenter simulation, the relations between the lasting time of the ‘trap’ effect and the indenter’s vertex angle are in reverse proportion, if the indenter’s vertex angle is smaller, the lasting time of the ‘trap’ effect of SAP is longer, and the size of large grain is an influence factor in the ‘trap’ effect of SAP.

Abstract: In this study, we investigated indentation behavior by varying the tip radius in a finite element model. We measured the tip radius and shape of the nano-indenter by SPM (scanning probe microscope) and compared them with the simulation results. The tip radius of cube corner indenter was measured to be 39nm, in agreement with the common tip radius of such indenters, which range from 20~50nm.
