Abstract: The ring-involute tooth spherical gear with two degrees of freedom is considered as the research object. Through the combination of theory and experiment, a further study is conducted on it. According to the theory of rapid prototyping, comprehensive consideration of the ring-involute teeth spherical gear tooth profile surface forming principle and transmission features, traditional machining method, transmission error and the actual application, a fast processing method of the ring-involute tooth spherical gear is proposed. Spherical gear model is built in Solidworks surface modeling environment. Through the use of rapid prototyping equipment, the ring-involute tooth spherical gear is worked out. Tooth root thick, addendum thickness and transmission error of spherical gear is further measured on this basis with the method of rapid forming. Basic parameters meet the requirements. The rapid prototyping processing method is proved to be practical, effective and valuable.

Abstract: This paper proposes a system of nonlinear equations to manipulate the amplitude of parabolic function of transmission errors. Firstly, the characteristics of parabolic function of transmission errors are defined. Then, a system of nonlinear equations for manipulating the amplitude of parabolic function of transmission errors is created based on both the conditions of contact and the constraint on the amplitude of function of transmission errors. As the number of independent scalar equations in the system minus the number of unknown parameters is one, one extra design parameter can be applied to manipulate the amplitude of parabolic function of transmission errors. The solution to the extra design variable is automatically, precisely, and efficiently determined by the computer program which is created based on the Newton’s root finding method. The time-consuming manual iterations for trying the value of design variable are eliminated. The proposed method can be applied to both two-and three-dimensional gearing problems. At last, a pair of meshing gears composed of a circular-arc spur gear and an involute spur gear is presented to verify the methodology proposed in this paper.

Abstract: The behavior of the contact surfaces between the gear teeth has a significant influence on the gear service properties. An analytical research concerning this behavior by considering a non Hertzian model was developed. A mathematical model of the surfaces of the teeth flanks for modified involute spur gears with crowning and relieving was presented. The pressure distribution, displacement and contact surfaces were analyzed, on considering the load, material characteristics and geometry of the contact surfaces and using a numerical method.

Abstract: Swept method is a commonly used parametric modeling method for helical gears. For the problem of tooth profiles distortion and parameters loss in parametric design, the symmetric equations that used to establish involutes and dedendum transition curves are proposed. The boundaries between teeth and the starting and ending angles of tooth profile curve are precisely calculated. Feature-based swept methods are applied as solutions. Instance modeling results demonstrate the accuracy of the methods and also reflect their preciseness and convenience.

Abstract: This paper presents a new interpolation method for involute in polar coordinate system based on pulse incremental algorithm and point to point comparison method. The new idea is that the diameter deviation of the base circle at any interpolation point is calculated and introduced to be a criterion to determine the feeding direction of next step. Consequently, the interpolation computing becomes very simple and high contour accuracy can be obtained. With slight modification of numerical control (NC) system, this method can be realized on NC milling machines equipped with two simultaneous movement axes. A case study has shown that this method is feasible and effective.

Abstract: Sprag overrunning clutch is one of key components in the drive system. Its a meaningful work to design and manufacture high performance sprag clutch to meet the practical working situation. In order to design reliable and durable clutch with good dynamic characteristics, this paper put forward a new type wedge surfaces which is a combination of involute and eccentric arc. On the basis of analysis of a clutch structure, work principles and failure modes, the sprag ,key element of the clutch, was demonstrated the feasibility of involute in the use of wedge surface design by analyzing the characteristics of involute, and the main sprag parameters were designed and analysized. The design of the new wedge surface, increasing the strut angle and effective cam rise, increased carrying capacity, reducing the contact stress, and extending service life, which laid the foundation for the sprag overrunning clutch design improvements.

Abstract: As the reason for large transmission ratio, small center distance and interference on translational motor body, the design method of involute gear for translational meshing motor was proposed. In order to get appropriate tooth profile parameters, the trail calculation considering the conditions of interference and coincidence degree were applied using the tooth profile parameters calculated from given module, number of teeth, pressure angle and modification coefficient. The internal meshing gears was designed and processed based on proposed method. The novel translational meshing motor using designed involute gears operates successfully and efficiently which testify the validity and feasibility of proposed method.

Abstract: Created a standard involute spur gears which was interactive and paramatric by Pro/ENGINEER software. Set gear parameters, created involute profile, achieved 3D paramatric gear model and make an interactive automatic modeling interface with the help of VC++. The finished 3D model is of high precision and easy to modify. If the designed product which is standardized and serialized, the methods and skills of the paper involved are suitable to make a automatic 3D solid paramatric model.
