Abstract: Organic optoelectronic devices such as light-emitting diodes and solar cells present unique challenges for surface cleaning and preparation because of their large area and the ‘soft’, thin film nature of the materials involved. This paper gives an introduction to this class of semiconductor devices and covers a recent example of how surface cleaning impacts the long-term reliability of organic light-emitting diodes being commercialized for solid-state lighting.

Abstract: The office buildings in Egypt, especially in Upper Egypt, reflect serious problems in achieving for energy efficiency as a result of increasing the use of mechanical refrigeration devices in office rooms, due to solar radiation and rising summer temperatures in recent years. Smart windows can play an important role in reducing significantly the energy consumption and maintaining energy inside buildings, also helps to control incoming solar radiation in order to minimize solar gain, especially in summer as well as ensuring the best natural lighting conditions without glare inside a room. This paper aims to evaluate the most efficient daylight and thermal performance of various types of the smart glazing and its impact on the energy consumption in the climatic conditions of one of the office buildings (Diwan governorate) in Sohag governorate as one of Upper Egypt governorates, with determining the best smart glass types for efficient use of energy. The paper follows the theoretical, applied, by studying types of smart glazing and their relation to achieving the energy efficiency. Then using (Energy Plus) simulation tool, which has been used in utilizing its modeling orientation (Design Builder) to study using types of smart glazing on the model of an office room in Building of Diwan governorate of Sohag in the four different orientations (North, East, South and West), when window-to-floor ratios (WFRs) (8%, 16%, 24% and 32%). The paper ends with a presentation of the most important results, recommendations and determination the best types of smart glass that provides energy, daylight without glare and providing greater comfort to users.

Abstract: One of the most important urban areas is street s and intersections that play an important role in shaping the overall identity of a city. The city is defined by the presence of the humans at night and nightlife plus visual sense plays the most important role in the perception of urban space. In addition, most of the things that are received by the sense of sight are with the help of light. Therefore, light and lighting in urban spaces as a non-physical element will have a huge impact on the quality of urban space. The main question in this study is the effects of lighting on the pedestrians’ understanding of the sense of security in Valiasr Street .In this regard, two variables of light color and light intensity are evaluated and considered based on eight hypotheses. To test these hypotheses, the main variables were first investigated and scrutinized. Then, according to the survey conducted, indicators related to the variables were determined and the items were designed. The main data collection tool is the questionnaire and among the pedestrians of Valiasr Street in Tehran that were selected as statistical population, 228 persons were randomly questioned. Due to the discrete nature of variables, a nonparametric function was used for their analysis. Calculation method using Kendall’s correlation analysis was analyzed using SPSS software. The findings show that that the satisfaction rate of light intensity is low, but their satisfaction with the lighting, light color, sense of security, and the ability to recognize faces is assessed averagely. Regarding the light color, people preferred white color to yellow one. The findings in this study suggest that using the white light instead of yellow and increase of light intensity increase the sense of security in pedestrians.

Abstract: The paper represents the results of the effective lighting introduction based on LED technology on the basis of a green house. It is shown that in order to reduce electricity costs, as well as increase yields, it is necessary to replace traditional sodium lamps with LED lighting lamps. Based on the results obtained, mathematical calculations confirm the above statement.

Abstract: The discovery of translucent concrete some years ago, opened a new horizon in Civil Engineering. Many researchers have looked for applications in matter of structural mechanics in order to replace classical concrete by this new and challenging material. However, the scientific and technical communities working in Civil Engineering seem to be still far away from clear ideas and strategies to take profit of one of the main properties of this material: its possibility to transmit light. The reason is complex: on one hand, most of the researchers are mainly interested in the mechanical properties and other researchers, more interested on lighting, maybe find it as a decorative element, but not as a functional one from the point of view of lighting. In this work, two lines concerning its optical characterization (which must be always the first step) and some applications to road tunnels are presented. We will see that more active and multidisciplinary research is still needed before fully understanding and accurately use this material for lighting purposes.

Abstract: Unable to control at long range is the shortage of DALI protocol. In order to solve this problem, a remote control scheme based on GPRS module is designed. In the hardware part, the GPRS module is set as a communication device of main controller, and the interface of MCU supports to the DALI protocol. In the software part, the control mechanism between the main controller and mobile terminal is realized. The software runs on the mobile terminal is developed, which is based on J2ME. The experimental result shows that the system responses are fast when user is at long range. It is of significant meaning for this design scheme on the development of advanced indoor lighting automation system.

Abstract: Energy is an important element in human daily life. In Malaysia, about 80% of electrical energy produced from burning fuels that will cause of carbon dioxide emission to atmosphere. The effect could be reduced with less energy consumption. This project focuses on energy management strategies for energy saving that can be done on the HVAC system, air-cond, lighting and office equipment in Emergency Department, Block C Hospital Sungai Buloh. The annual profit, total cost and payment period for each research method are also studied. To implement for all major system must be link to chapter by Buiding Automation System. Major studies for this topic is to implement energy saving, calculate energy comsumption, power, area specific room, return of investment, analysis for daily cost for used, total for kWh for monthly usage.
