Abstract: Modern manufacturing logistics like any other business functional area must be subject to the processes of optimization and improvement in order to meet the requirements of market competition both in terms of technological and customer satisfaction. In order to achieve this manufacturing logistics subsystem should be supported guidelines contained in modern quality management systems, the implementation and improvement of comprehensive basic streamlines logistics processes in the company. The aim of the article is to examine the actual impact of the quality management system to improve manufacturing logistics and the development of a general model of supporting the creation philosophy of quality in the production area.

Abstract: This paper contains analysis and assessment of use of information technologies in manufacturing processes performed over the years 2010-2013 by manufacturing companies that employ at least 10 employees. Although companies use many different information technology automation devices and tools, this paper is only focused upon manufacturing process automation devices, since these automation devices exert a significant impact upon improvement of work safety levels. As a result of this study, industrial processing sector’s divisions were identified with the highest level of use of determined automation devices in relation to the adopted average value for the industrial processing sector as a whole, and directions of changes were identified in the area of use of the particular automation devices in the analysed groups of manufacturing companies being active in Poland.

Abstract: The increase of energy consumption has produced significant environmental impacts such as climatic change, acid rain, photo chemical smog formation, nonrenewable resource consumption etc. Considering the urgency of saving the world’s energy reserve and reduction of environmental impacts, studies on the energy consumption throughout the life cycle of building materials are crucial. In this study, it was aimed to indicate the factors which contribute the energy efficiency in manufacturing processes of building materials. The study included the energy used for raw material extraction, production energy for manufacturing of building materials, transportation energy and construction energy on site. A literature review was made. Energy use and efficiency for each process were evaluated.

Abstract: Presently the prime task of manufacturing engineers is to make products within a short span by maintaining the best quality at minimum cost. Recent market trends confirm the continuation of New Product Development (NPD) as a change agent for many more years to come with a focus on high product variety and shorter product life cycles. The effective introduction of new products is critical to the performance of manufacturing industries in more industrial sectors. It is a measure of an industry's strength in innovation and competitiveness in NPD. Manufacturing industries are forced to accept that the focus on NPD is on increasing product variety and shorter product life cycle. For many manufacturing industries, mass customization with "voice of customer", agility and leanness are some of the vital prerequisites to survive in the current global competitive environment. NPD is no longer an isolated process; it requires close integration between all active members within the supply chain such as customers, suppliers, manufacturers, etc. and must be viewed as an integrated business process. The proper use of advanced IT has enhanced NPD in manufacturing enterprises. It facilitates shorter product lead-times and increases responsiveness to changes in the market along with improved product quality, as well as maintaining low product cost.

Abstract: Modern timber buildings are more and more popular with their characteristics of green, environmental protection, low carbon. According to their structure, they are divided into light wood frame construction, sawn and log timber structures, glued laminated timber structures, log cabins. This paper analyzes the structure supporting structural system of log cabins, from material requirements, structural design to production process, supplemented by practical case to demonstration, to explore the design method of log cabin’s structure supporting system.

Abstract: This paper presents a methodology for extending the use of the beam-shell forming model to predict the structural properties of the composite part. After the forming simulation has been performed, the material definition will be changed such that the beam elements will represent the fiber reinforcements and the shell elements will represent the resin. The methodology behind the entire approach will be demonstrated using a stitched uniaxial glass fabric. The methodology for characterizing the fabric behavior will be discussed. After the part has been formed, it will be infused with resin. The methodology for characterizing the composite behavior will be introduced. The finite element model will be compared with experimental data to validate the methodology.

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to explore how manufacturers becoming service providers by adding service offerings to their total offering. We investigate the extent to which existing internal capablity of manufacturing companies and external factors affect the level of servitization. This paper presents the state-of-the art of servitization within a manufacturing context. Our findings indicate a need for recursive iterations between different elements of separated and integrated processes in line with new business model. Thus, servitization is pozitiviley related to business model and product complexity. There is a need to improve the connective mechanisms and dynamics involved in business model development. Finally, this paper contributes to the development and rafinement of the process to shift from selling products to selling integrated products and services that deliver value in use for customers.

Abstract: The tools used for collaborative product design is based on PLM solutions, integrating BOM, CAD, CAE, CAPP, CAM and PDM software. The PLM platforms are distributed in virtual project team of partners. Currently, the integrated collaborative and distributed product design and manufacture can be supported by the cloud technology, given advances in Cloud Computing. The objective of our research is to develop an infrastructure for integrated collaborative and distributed product design and manufacturing, including software applications, CNC machine tools, additive manufacturing machines etc., dispersed in different universities labs for students’ education.

Abstract: This case study describes the transition and the evolution from mass production to mass customization in the case of highly complex engineering products, LED lighting systems, and how can some of the principles of this mass customization`s business strategy may be applied. It is analyzed the capabilities of the existing production systems within a company producing lighting systems, as well as the flexibility and ability to adapt in order to introduce new customized products. The study aims to analyze the strategic principles formed around the company’s core capabilities, the competitive advantages offered by introducing this new strategy as well as its limitations. In the end we will give an overview on the development of mass customization of LED lighting system.

Abstract: In this paper we have presented some of the major technical and economic challenges for companies that address mass customization as a new strategy. The need to approach this concept and the increasingly larger trend towards mass customization is due to the demand from individual clients of customized products. The importance of the interaction between customer and manufacturing companies that use or want to introduce mass customization as the new strategy brings the client in the middle of the action from the first stage of the process. Increased efficiency can be achieved when innovative methods and techniques are pursued and implemented. Some of the most important capabilities that companies must posses in order to have complete success in their transition towards mass customization are presented in this paper.
