Abstract: The nanocrystalline diamond films were deposited by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PE-CVD) on Si (100) substrate. Reciprocating sliding tests were conducted using Si3N4 balls as a counter body. A method based on the construction of the Abbott curve representing the areas of pristine and worn surface in the wear scars was applied for estimation of the wear rate. The calculated wear rates were compared with the results obtained by profilometric measurements and direct measurement of the wear scars cross sections by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Abstract: The present study deals with the tribological behavior of nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) coatings at high temperature sliding conditions. The NCD coatings were grown by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) method on the hard metal (WC-Co) substrates. The friction and wear tests were performed on ball-on-disc tribometer using a high-temperature chamber with rotary drive. The tests were carried out at room temperature, 300, 450 and 600 °C. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical microscopy, mechanical profilometry and Raman spectrometry were used for investigation of the morphology and chemical composition of the wear scars and pristine surface. The depth and width of the wear scars measured after the high temperature sliding tests are larger in comparison with room temperature tests. It was observed that the coefficient of friction (COF) increased with increasing temperature. The wear rate of NCD coatings tested at 300-450° C was about 10 times higher than that at room temperature. The mechanisms involved for these variations are discussed.

Abstract: The study deals with the calculation of the wear rate of nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) films. The NCD films were grown by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MW-PECVD) on (100)-oriented Si wafers. Reciprocating sliding tests with different loads and test durations were conducted. The depth profiles of wear scars were analyzed by the mechanical (stylus) profilometer and the wear rate was evaluated. The NCD films were broken across the wear scars and the wear rate was estimated by the measurement of the area of wear scar using the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) cross-sectional image. A good agreement was found between two methods.

Abstract: In this paper we present a compound anisotropic diffusion filter algorithm to apply edge sensitive ICOV operator in NCD model. According to the correlation coefficient of the ICOV operator, we obtain effective nonlinear denoising. The experiment have validated that our algorithm have better effect in smoothing and better ability in edge preservation.

Abstract: In the present investigation, both micro-crystalline and nanocrystalline diamond (MCD and NCD) films are fabricated, which are characterized by FESEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy), surface profilemeter, Raman spectroscopy and Rockwell hardness tester. Moreover, under the dry environment, the frictional behavior of both the films sliding against commonly-used materials in the metal drawing industry is studied on a ball-on-plate rotational frictional tester, including the stainless steel, low-carbon steel, high-carbon steel and copper, demonstrating that the frictional coefficients between NCD films and all these materials are relatively smaller. Furthermore, the wear rates of both the films, which are hardly measured in the ball-on-plate friction tests, are evaluated using a home-made inner-hole line drawing apparatus, with both the diamond films deposited on the inner-hole surfaces and the low-carbon steel wires as the counterparts. Inversely, the NCD films present higher wear rates than the MCD ones, which can be attributed to the deteriorative film purity and adhesion.

Abstract: In this study, micro- crystalline diamond(MCD), fine grade diamond(FGD) and nano- crystalline diamond(NCD) thin films are successfully coated on WC-Co micro drills(φ=400µm) adopting hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) technique. The microstructure and cutting performance of micro drills for applying to drill electrical discharge machining(EDM) graphite coated with MCD, FGD and NCD films are systematically investigated by means of field emission scanning electron microscope(FESEM) and Raman spectroscopy. After drilling of 1500 holes, wear behavior of these micro drills is analyzed by FESEM and NCD coated micro drills exhibit minimum flank wear compared with the other samples due to the relatively good wear resistance and friction properties of NCD films.

Abstract: Composed of a variable displacement pump and a constant displacement motor, the hydrostatic driving system is a kind of closed speed control system with adjustable displacement. It is widely used in the field of engineering vehicle and other fields. Based on an analysis of the constitution and mathematical model of the hydrostatic driving system, the present study tuned PID parameters by using the critical proportioning method and the optimization method of NCD respectively. Then a kind of fuzzy adaptive PID controller was designed on the basis of the traditional PID control and the fuzzy control theory. In the controller, fuzzy logic was used to realize online self-tuning of PID parameters according to the motor speed error and its derivative, so that the system could have better adaptive ability and strong disturbance resisting performance. The dynamic simulation was made in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation results show that the optimization method of NCD has better tuning effect and the response performance of the fuzzy adaptive PID controller is better than that of the classic one. Besides, it should be noted that a drawback was found about the fuzzy adaptive PID control. On the basis of fixed scale factors, a group of quantification factors is appropriate for a specific input signal, but for other signals, the response of the system is not so ideal. A method of adjusting quantification factors according to input signal was adopted to solve the above problem. Automatic adjusting of quantification factors was realized, and this could ensure ideal response to all input signals.

Abstract: Chemical vapor deposition nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) film has numerous unsurpassed properties, among them, bulk modulus, hardness; abrasion resistance and thermal conductivity are notable ones like polycrystalline CVD diamond film. The super mechanical properties have made NCD film to be an effective way to improve the resistance performance of the ceramic bearing and extended its life. The contact stress of bearing ball with NCD coating in elastic contact was analyzed. Factors such as substrate material, thickness of NCD coating, load and interlayer material which affect the shear stress distribution of NCD coating on bearing ball were investigated. The results show that substrate with low elastic modulus and heavy load will enlarge the difference of equivalent stress value at NCD/substrate interface. Thick film will make the stress distribution at the interface uniform. Soft interlayer should be inhibited to avoid extra stress in contact status.
