Abstract: A new approach to evaluate the Newtonian flow between concentric rotating spheres is introduced in this paper. A general analytic solution to the problem is deduced using a perturbation method that takes into account the primary and secondary flows produced between the spheres, as well as an alternative analytical method. In order to exemplify the results of the previous analysis, six particular cases were studied. The results of the perturbation method show that under certain circumstances the secondary flow is no negligible, as is usually considered, but it is comparable to the value of the primary one. While the analytical method allows us to simulate the flow with results very similar to those of other authors.

Abstract: We work with the numerical solution of the turbulent compressible gas flow, and we focus on the numerical solution of these equations, and on the boundary conditions, particularly on the outlet boundary condition with the preference of given mass flow. Usually, the boundary problem is being linearized, or roughly approximated. The inaccuracies implied by these simplifications may be small, but it has a huge impact on the solution in the whole studied area, especially for the non-stationary flow. The boundary condition with the preference of mass flow is sometimes being implemented with the use of some iterative process, guessing the correct values (for the pressure, density, velocity) in order to match the given mass flow through the boundary. In our approach we try to be as exact as possible, using our own original procedures. We follow the exact solution of the initial-value problem for the system of hyperbolic partial differential equations. This complicated problem is modified at the close vicinity of boundary, where the conservation laws are supplied with the additional boundary conditions. We complement the boundary problem suitably, and we show the analysis of the resulting uniquely-solvable modified Riemann problem. The resulting algorithm was coded and used within our own developed code for the solution of the compressible gas flow (the Euler, NS, and RANS equations). The examples show good behaviour of the analyzed boundary condition.

Abstract: The three-dimensional supersonic turbulent flow in presence of symmetric transverse injection of round jet is simulated numerically. The simulation is based on the Favre-averaged Navier-Stokes equations coupled with Wilcox’s turbulence model. The numerical solution is performed using ENO scheme and is validated with the experimental data that include the pressure distribution on the wall in front of the jet in the plane symmetry. The numerical simulation is used to investigate in detail the flow physics for a range of the pressure ratio . The well-known primary shock formations are observed (a barrel shock, a bow shock, and the system of λ-shock waves), and the vortices are identified (horseshoe vortex, an upper vortex, two trailing vortices formed in the separation region and aft of the bow shock wave, two trailing vortices that merge together into one single rotational motion). During the experiment the presence of the new vortices near the wall behind the jet for the pressure ratio is revealed.
