Abstract: Materials of thermoplastic polymer when they break is usually thrown away, or is recycled which requires a long process. The purpose of this study is splicing the broken thermoplastic polymer using hot gas hand welding with different variations of welding wire/electrodes. Materials of thermoplastic polymer used are Polyethylene (PE), Polypropylene (PP), and Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) by using welding wire like the three materials. The method is carried out by using hot gas hand welding, there are two materials that cannot be connected, namely PE with PVC welding wire, and PP with PVC welding wire. The permeable liquid penetrant test is PP with PE welding wire, and PVC with PE welding wire. The longest elongation is PE with PE welding wire is 15.96% and the best of bending result is PVC with PVC welding wire reach value 181.2 kgf/mm2. The microstructure was all described in Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) observations.

Abstract: This study is to examine substances which can protect the polymer composites against gnawing from rodent. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compound acted as polymer matrix was mixed with anti-rodent substances in internal mixer. Several substances were added in PVC namely: denatonium benzoate (DB), capsaicum oleroresin (CO), deltamethrin (DM), caffeine, pepper, salt, wasabi and essential oil. There were 6 sets of anti-rodent samples. The percentage of weight loss of each sample was recorded and compared. The result showed the best repellent substances were DB and CO giving bitter taste and burning sensation to the rodent, respectively. The best anti-rodent composites are samples in set 6 consisting of DB at concentration of 1.961 wt% and SiCO at concentration of 12.162 to 23.529 wt%.

Abstract: The article is devoted to the research into the utilization of large volume industrial wastes to produce mineral-polymer composite construction materials. To produce the composites, polyvinyl chloride wastes have been suggested as binding thermoplastic matrix and ash-and-slag wastes, which are the by-product of coal combustion at TPP of Irkutsk Oblast, as mineral filler. Since the problem of accumulation and storage, such as large volumes of power generation industry wastes is becoming more and more serious, the recycling of these wastes with the production of useful products is the vital task. Plants that manufacture products from PVC also produce plastic wastes in the form of rejected and substandard raw material, which can be recycled. At the same time, the problem of production available construction materials for the Baikal region from the local cheap raw material is solved. The team of Irkutsk National Research Technical University has conducted a number of the industrial trials on the production of mineral-polymer composites by the method of extrusion. As a result, the principal opportunity of co-utilization of PVC wastes and ash-and-slag materials during the production of composite construction materials has been testified. Local construction companies can use the produced materials.

Abstract: The inflatable bedpan is designed to provide comfortable, convenient, safe, hygienic, efficient and easy to use to the patients and their caretakers. In order to investigate the suitability thickness of inflatable bedpan for the pressure inflow in bedpan tube, the analysis is done using Catia analysis. The static analysis work is carried out to inflatable bedpan cross section of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and their relative performances have been observed respectively. The thickness 0.5 mm shows the highest Von Mises Stress which is 21100 kPa compared to 0.8and 1.0 mm thicknesses. The lowest Von Mises Stress observed at thickness 1.0 mm which is 2990 kPa. The less stress obtained can encourage perfect shape of the design. In this paper, by observing the result of static structure analysis obtained, 1 mm is suggested as best thickness to be used as an inflatable bedpan wall because it can withstand more pressure while maintaining its stability.

Abstract: PVC insulation has extensively been used for insulating low voltage electrical cables. They offer superior insulating properties but how ageing and exposure could affect their insulation properties is a matter of concern. Chemical exposure related failure modes are known but have received only limited study. The traditional testing methods like insulation testing could only test whether the present properties are satisfactory. The application of thermal analysis methods like differential scanning calorimetry could identify the variation in thermal characteristics with respect to ageing and chemical exposure. Polluted environments may cause a direct attack upon a polymer. It has been concluded that significant changes in the behavior of insulation occurs in acidic environment that may lead to insulation failures.

Abstract: Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) shielding materials commonly refers to how effective the material in limiting the passage of electromagnetic radiation into the devices. This undesired interference may cause disturbances to the performance of the any electrical systems. Thus, with effective EMI shielding materials, electromagnetic radiations are blocked with barriers made of conductive materials. In military field, the operation of certain communication equipments such as radar system can be interfered by disturbances due to the electromagnetic radiation emitted by external sources. This paper presents the investigations on non-metal materials which are Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and carbon fiber composite as EMI shielding materials in building construction. These shielding materials are placed in the concrete block which casted based on the standard wall building of grade 30. These customized structures are proven to reduce signal penetration significantly in the high frequency range up to 2.4 GHz.

Abstract: According to the research on environmental hazard of PVC waste, I investigated the residents of different ages in general community, garbage classification community and once garbage classification community in Tianjin, and management, recycling, transit, handling departments of solid waste, for the produce, sorting, recycling, treatment and reuse of PVC waste. It has been advised that to establish special recycling of PVC plastics is the most effective and feasible scheme to decrease the negative impacts of PVC waste. It has also been proved that school students are the best group to promote this work.
