Abstract: With the ever competitive global market swamped with more choices of high-tech gadgets from smartphones to head-mounted display eyewear like “Google Glass”, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is one of the key factors to engineering and technological advancement and the bridge to the future. In view of such significant importance, the government of Malaysia has been embarking on national policies to prioritise the education and the programmes on ICT to train and produce highly skilled ICT workers to achieve the nation’s ambition to become a developed country. Despite the government efforts, studies have shown that Malaysia is still currently facing shortage of skilled ICT workers. In view of this shortage of skilled ICT worker problem, a systematic engineering problem solving theory known as TRIZ is applied to generate ideas and potential solutions to solve this problem in this research.

Abstract: This study presents the results of a literature review that was performed to identify and evaluate knowledge management such as problem solving (PS) methods are suitable for identification and analysis of risks on existing issues. The studied methods were compiled into 2 groups which is manufacturing, and research development. The key discussion would be where the PS tool is more relevant and how it help to solve the problem effectively. The aspects studied in the methods are presented together with a short description of its applications, area of the analysis and relevance to industry and education. Also some characteristics of the methods are given, as well as reference to previous key publications on the methods. The contribution of study is exploration on a new definition of PS methodology which is simplified and structured.

Abstract: Problem statements is a form of natural language used in any problem solvings [17]. A problem statement is described in terms of scope, structure and its purpose. Analysis in problem statement is a critical element of a structured problem solving that has not been included in or explicated by traditional stage models of the process. This paper details out that an analysis stage is needed to develop the implications of a problem's definition and to direct the selection and pursuit of solution strategies. This paper also discusses the importance of problem statement and how a new method of structure is being modeled for an effecient and effective problem solving in industrial environment. Strategies for future research on problem analysis are discussed

Abstract: The company mission is to be clear choice for affordable technology and manufacturing. Its strategies go with maintaining the technology leadership, deliver manufacturing excellence, exceed customer expectation, be the work place of choice and relentlessly pursue shareholder value. The objective would be delivering leading edge technology at affordable cost, be perceived as the cost leader in manufacturing, and exceeds the customer quality, responsiveness and the product performance expectations. The company businesses use numerous problem solving methods to achieve operational excellence. The research paper will discuss on the improvement and breakthrough of TRIZ application to address the key problem statement, which is lack of details in problem definition stage, and problem characterization is not really carried out to understand in depth on the area of problem.

Abstract: This study are to understand the current state of the students’ meta-cognition, their attitude toward problem solving ability and to explore the relationship between the two. Using descriptive statistics, t-tests, Pearson product-moment correlation, and regression analysis, there was a moderate correlation (r = .531, p<.05*) between the subjects’ meta-cognition and problem solving ability. Using simple regression analysis, the findings showed that meta-cognition had significant predictive power on problem solving ability.

Abstract: Mechanical engineering field requires engineers with more practical problem-solving experience and skills of thinking, working and acting creatively. But, how can we develop and encourage these important skills in undergraduates This article describes a case of nurturing creativity in undergraduates through cooperation with enterprises. Through the study of cognitive learning and creativity, a series of educational procedures and strategies are presented, they involved in basic training of fostering creativity and higher-level training of developing creativity based on commercial projects. Questionnaires from students and the actual results demonstrate that the above strategies and methods for fostering creativity in mechanical engineering undergraduates have yielded good results and students benefit from them.

Abstract: This paper is going to use Grey Model to analyze the research tool of abilities of problem solving. There are 10 questions in the Test of problem solving. The results of this paper is not only identify the easiest and the most difficult concepts for students, but also displays that the Grey Model can really found out the students’ abilities of problem solving, therefore the analysis of Grey Model is better than that of tradition method.

Abstract: A problem solving strategy based on practical engineering projects in physics has been developed. The survey shows that 85% of the students think this strategy can help them improve self-directed learning skills, their communication skills and problem solving skills in their learning process.
