Abstract: aiming at the difficulty of dynamic evaluation and realizing innovation in Product Family Evolution (PFE), an evaluation method of the product family for mass customization is presented by analyzing the influences of customer needs, enterprise resources and product data in the implementation process of Product Family (PF). From the perspective of time and space, the dynamic and static relative of PFE is summarized. In order to judge the situation of current product family and achieve the evolution innovation of product family, a comparative evaluation model for the product family based on Grey Conjunction Degree is established. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility of the method were proved by evaluation and analysis of Small Wheel Loaders (SWLs).

Abstract: Under the assumption that product family manufacturer adopts assemble-to-order (ATO) to assemble common component and specific components into two kinds of product belonging to a same product family and being substitutive for each other, a product marketing and components replenishment model is developed. The optimal marketing and replenishment policy for product family ATO manufacturer is obtained. And an algorithm for the optimal policy is proposed. It is shown through theoretical, numerical and empirical analysis that product family ATO producer should make the prices of products no larger than their intrinsic value, and the difference between prices not too big or too small; with the rise of product intrinsic value, producer should raise the prices of whole product family, increase the time with components in stock and shorten the cycle of replenishment.

Abstract: Product family is a series of products with similar characteristics. It is a strategy used by modern enterprise to achieve product diversification with limited development, manufacturing and service. Product DNA is the design commonality of enterprises product family, it is distinctive and aesthetic by reflecting the company's brand value and design concept, in addition ,it include some essential elements such as form, color, material and composition. This paper introduces the methods of drawing product DNA and analysing the relevance of design features to brand style by case study.

Abstract: A new design method for product family was presented based on adaptable product platform. Firstly, customer demands were analyzed for bridge crane. Secondly, axiomatic design was utilized as framework to zigzaging mapping between functional requirements and design parameters, and design matrix was established. Then the sensitivity analysis among design parameters and between design parameters and functional requirements was done. The design relation matrix was established and relation degree among design parameters was calculated. Based on above analysis, the platform parameters were identified.

Abstract: Design Factors of product-family is one of the important elements to maintain and to improve customers’ loyalty to a band. Extraction of design factors of product family based on customer needs promotes relations between brands and customers while improves satisfaction to products of the consumers. In existing studies, methods of getting customer needs have always attracted close attention. But the links between customer needs and design factors have not been adequately studied. By using QFD (Quality Function Deployment) and increasing the number of cascaded transformation hierarchies of the House of Quality, the method of extracting design factors of product family is proposed in this paper.

Abstract: A cost estimation method is required to estimate the life cycle cost of a product family at the early stage of product development in order to evaluate the product family design. There are difficulties with existing cost estimation techniques in estimating the life cycle cost for a product family at the early stage of product development. This paper proposes a framework that combines a knowledge based system and an activity based costing techniques in estimating the life cycle cost of a product family at the early stage of product development. The inputs of the framework are the product family structure and its sub function. The output of the framework is the life cycle cost of a product family that consists of all costs at each product family level and the costs of each product life cycle stage. The proposed framework provides a life cycle cost estimation tool for a product family at the early stage of product development using high level information as its input. The framework makes it possible to estimate the life cycle cost of various product family that use any types of product structure. It provides detailed information related to the activity and resource costs of both parts and products that can assist the designer in analyzing the cost of the product family design. In addition, it can reduce the required amount of information and time to construct the cost estimation system.

Abstract: One series of cone welding workpiece is a key part of certain critical equipment;we detected the weld quality and geometric error to ensure the high quality. This paper we research the straight weld, the girth weld ultrasonic testing equipment and geometric errors laser automatic testing equipment. Since the testing equipments have a certain degree of correlation, this article also draws on product family design thought, the modular and parametric technique to design the different testing equipments. The kind of design greatly improves the quality, reduces the manufacturing costs, shortens the research and development cycle, receives very nice results.

Abstract: This paper discusses product family development on a flexible product platform. It firstly analyses furniture product market positioning, product type and future trends, then, by depth analysis of furniture product market development trends, draws the predictable part in the development trends to guide the design of furniture product,at the same time, analyses potential consumer needs and trends in unpredictable direction to identify future design attributes and design parameters, creates a design parameter matrix to obtain main design parameters, through the main parameters mapped to the physical structure (shape and structure of furniture product),and finds out core shape and furniture structure. By above analysis of a flexible product platform, based on this platform, combining the optional elements with variant design elements, we can design a series of furniture product family.

Abstract: This study presents a novel approach for configuring the product assembly model in order to rapid design a product family of transportation equipment. The proposed methodology is divided into three phases: namely modular partition phase, product structure configuration phase, and parametric correlation phase. In the modular partition phase, building the incidence matrix through correlation analysis of components under functional, geometric and physical domains, and on this basis, building the similarity matrix and re-aggregating the components into modules by cluster method in fuzzy mathematics. In second phase, a family-oriented product design framework is proposed based on the modular partition results to help designers to concurrently create design solutions. In the last phase, communicating of the module and design framework based on the flow of design parameters information, three types of parameters association and transmission are clarified. The methodology proposed here is illustrated via the example of the design of a screw conveyor.
