Abstract: The adhesion test of metallic structures on MID (Molded Interconnect Devices) parts is an unsolved issue. So far no method really works reliably. The test methods which are conventionally used are the pull-off test and the shear-test. Both show large standard deviation and the reproducibility is not assured. Nordson DAGE has introduced the new micro-material testing system 4000Plus. This device enables a new test method for the determination of the adhesion strength of MID structures using the hot pin pull (hot bump pull) method. Copper pins (tinned or untinned) are heated up with a user defined temperature profile, soldered to a metallized structure on the MID and then removed vertically upward, while the force is recorded. In this contribution investigations with this new test method are presented.

Abstract: Because of the great speed range in a finishing block of a wire rod mill, the reduction of torsional vibrations makes it possible to achieve closer rolling tolerances. The components transmitting the torque like gear box, coupling etc. can generate non-smooth or alternating torques which affect the product quality. To study the influences of torsion vibrations on the product quality, the dynamic interactions of the block and rolling process are simultaneously analyzed by a simulation model. As an example, a three stand arrangement is considered. The real transmission system is idealized as a structurally discrete torsional vibration model. The generalized rotational coordinates with a large number of rotational degrees of freedom can be reduced among others constants by means of gear ratios. Euler-Lagrange equations are applied to create the coupled equations of motion, which together constitute an ordinary differential equation of order 28. The rolling and main drive torques are defined as excitation for vibration on the right side of the equation system. A DC motor is selected as main drive and the voltage circuit equation of motor is integrated into the system of differential equations. The armature current and its interaction are consequently simulated. The rotational speed of rolls and motor, as well as roll torques, longitudinal stresses in rod and section widths are shown in diagrams as the result and thereby the torsional vibration of the essential elements of the system are studied for different temperatures and cross-sectional variations.

Abstract: Nowadays manufacturing companies have to face conflicting issues continuously. Solving this type of problem means finding solutions that ensure a fair compromise between different objectives. In this work, a porthole die extrusion is considered as a specific case study. Usually, the main objective of this process is to find the combination of input parameters that allow the product quality to be maximized. However, product quality is not the only variable that companies have to take into account. In fact, it is also necessary to design the process in an efficient and sustainable way in order to reduce process cost and environmental impact. To this purpose, in this study the conflicting aims of product quality maximization and energy assumption minimization are considered and optimized. To pursue this aim an experimental investigation was executed, in order to build a preliminary database. The decision variables are the profile thickness and the process velocity. During the tests, the punch was measured in order to quantify the absorbed power along with the environmental impact of the process for changing conditions. In the same way, the mechanical properties of the extruded profile were measured by means of a tensile test, in order to assess the product quality. To solve this kind of problem the use of multi-objective optimization techniques is required in order to find the set of Pareto optimal solutions from which a single configuration will be selected according to specific business needs.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of high pressure processing (HPP) as a preservation method of meat products. Vacuum-packaged fish patties were subjected to HPP (300 MPa for 30 min 15°C or 500 Mpa for 10 min at 15°C). Untreated samples represented the control group. The three groups were stored at 4°C for 0–5 weeks. Color parameters, pH, thiobarbituric (TBARS), bacterial growth, and Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) were determined. The results revealed that the 500-MPa treatment inhibited bacterial growth and extended the shelf-life of fish patties to four weeks with insignificant effects on the physicochemical attributes.

Abstract: Production Planning and Control (PPC) does not only play an important role in the classical field of production. Concerning a trend to more customer related products and a so called buyers market, also the not yet strongly automated businesses have to think about topics like PPC. By forming a new automated shop floor in a commercial kitchen for example, new optimization criteria in the PPC play a crucial role. Especially in the manner of scheduling jobs different constraints concerning the handled products come up. This paper demonstrates a possibility to extend the criteria of PPC with the subjective parameter of product quality. This approach allows influencing an oven-control to reach the best product quality in its processing.

Abstract: Rice husk is considered as a massive agricultural lignocellulosic biomass residue for the production of bio-based fuels and chemicals products. The purpose of this study is to investigate the physiochemical properties of the pyrolysis-oil derived from wet and dried rice husk fast pyrolysis process. The experiments were performed in a drop type fixed-bed pyrolyzer at the pyrolysis temperature of 350 to 600 °C. The products, char, pyrolysis-oil and gas, yield are investigated. The pyrolysis-oil derived from dried rice husk contained higher Carbon and Hydrogen and less oxygen contents than the pyrolysis-oil obtained from wet rice husk. FT-IR results showed the oxygenated compounds present in both pyrolysis-oil. The pyrolysis oil from dried rice husk has higher concentration of hydrocarbons as compared to wet rice husk pyrolysis-oil. The dried rice husk pyrolysis-oil produced more phenols and less carboxylic acid as compared to wet rice husk pyrolysis-oil at 500 °C. More volatile released in dried rice husk conversion produced more volatile compounds. These findings suggest that the original moisture present in biomass samples is the major influencing parameter on the thermal degradation of biomass during fast pyrolysis process.

Abstract: Three different plastic packaging (CPP, LDPE and HDPE) were researched on preservation of carp in this study, and the indicatiors of color difference and sensory evaluation were tracked. Color difference of carp block muscle was analyzed by CR-400 chroma meter, and the value of L*, a* and b* were measured at different stage of storage. At the same time, sensory evaluation was conducted. The results showed that the value of L* a* and b* all increased along with storage days, which indicated that the color of the carp block skin turning lighter, redder and yellower. The material of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) could be better for keeping muscle color of carp during storage. However, the results of sensory evaluation showed that Cast Polypropylene (CPP) was better for keeping shelf quality of carp block. There was negative correlation between color difference and sensory evaluation. The value of b* could better represent sensory score in MAP, for it was correlate significantly with sensory evaluation in all three types of packaging.

Abstract: Global climate change affects not only rice yield but also grain quality. A better understanding of the effect of environment factors on rice yield and quality provides information for breeding new varieties adapted to a changing world. This study uses indica-japonica recombinant inbred lines (RILs) constructed in different ecological regions of China as test materials. The objectives were to determine the effect of environment on rice yield and quality. The results revealed that: the yield of RILs in Liaoning was greater than that in the other regions, milling and appearance qualities in Sichuan and Guangdong were worse than that in Liaoning and Shanghai. High temperature and high relative humidity combined with low sunshine duration were the main reason for lower milling quality and greater chalkiness traits. The air temperature during heading stage and maturity stage seemed more important for rice milling and appearance qualities throughout the growing season.
